A Pokemon fan has shared an extremely impressive 3D animated battle of the player character’s Psyduck fighting Cynthia’s Garchomp and absolutely devastating it to win. The fight against Cynthia’s Garchomp is extremely well animated and has fans imagining what a more dynamic Pokemon fight could look like in the games.
Psyduck has been around since Gen 1, and in that time, the way that fights in the Pokemon series look and operate hasn’t changed much. Although there are outliers, for the most part, Pokemon fights in the games boil down to an attack animation playing out on one side, an impact animation hitting the other Pokemon (if the attack lands), and the process repeating. Pokemon don’t really physically interact with each other or their environments in fights, and while the animations have become more detailed as time has gone on, fans have often voiced their want for a more dynamic form of battle that looks closer to what’s shown in the Pokemon anime.

Pokemon Fan Shares Clever Convergent Psyduck Design
A Pokemon fan gives Psyduck a Convergent Form with some clever inspiration and giving the Pokemon some much-needed attention.
Pokemon fan MrFrtc has given fellow players a sense of what that might look like with their fight animation. As the video starts, Psyduck has clearly taken a battering in the fight and is struggling to hold on. However, as its trainer starts to consider calling the Psyduck back, it gestures for their trainer to let them continue. Sinnoh Pokemon League Champion Cynthia indicates to her Garchomp to go for the finishing blow, but Psyduck has other ideas.
Psyduck’s trainer warns it to dodge the attack, and it does so, running across the field and a boulder to evade the incoming hits. After Psyduck lands safely, Cynthia seems to realize that her Garchomp has been left wide open, and Psyduck’s trainer calls for its attack. Psyduck unleashes its psychic power, smashing Garchomp between massive boulders, winning the fight. A final shot shows the victory photo the trainer took with Cynthia as Psyduck and their other Pokemon enjoy some casual rest time.
Psyduck’s Enduring Charm
Although Psyduck isn’t the strongest Pokemon, it’s nonetheless remained popular since its inception. Psyduck’s dopey expression, chronic headaches, and Misty’s Psyduck’s inability to do even the most basic things a Water-type Pokemon should be able to in the anime, like swimming, has charmed fans time and time again. While Psyduck wasn’t the absolute worst match-up for a fight like this, having a type advantage over Garchomp’s Ground-typing with its Water-typing, seeing it unleash its true psychic potential on the Pokemon is extremely satisfying to watch. Fans have showered MrFrtc in compliments for their efforts, with many hoping to see more.
