A third entry in the Injustice series is apparently in the works from NetherRealm Studios, according to a leak from an artist that seems to have worked on the game. Injustice: Gods Among Us was released in 2013, offering a fighting game experience somewhat similar to Mortal Kombat. The difference is that Injustice features characters like Superman and Wonder Woman in place of MK icons such as Scorpion and Katana.
Since the original game, Injustice has become a full franchise for Warner Bros. and DC. There have been comics adaptations, action figures, and an Injustice animated film was released in 2021. Injustice 2 came out back in 2017, and rumors about a third game in the series have been circulating for several years. Nothing has been officially confirmed, but Injustice 3 seems inevitable, at some point.
Insomniac Venom Game Gets Confusing Update
The current status of Insomniac’s leaked Venom spin-off game for PlayStation 5 is unclear after a pair of contradictory updates.
Injustice 3 Artist Accidentally Leaks the Game
As discovered by MP1st, an artist at Warner Bros. Games may have accidentally leaked the existence of Injustice 3. The artist’s resume mentions the game alongside other projects that they worked on at the company, including a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, and two other unannounced projects. The resume adds to previous evidence that NetherRealm is working on an Injustice 2 sequel. Last year, a pair of actors apparently shared their involvement with Injustice 3, though nothing has been confirmed.

Injustice 2 featured a robust roster of characters to choose from, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement. Lots of great DC characters could appear in Injustice 3, including ones that have been introduced in the comics more recently, or that have become popular over the last nine years. Peacemaker seems like a very safe bet, given the fact that he appeared as a guest fighter in Mortal Kombat 1. Dreamer also seems like a strong possibility, given that the hero has appeared in comics, on TV, and even as a Fortnite skin.
Fans should always temper their expectations when it comes to leaks, but the mounting evidence suggests that a full announcement for Injustice 3 could be happening in the future. James Gunn seemed to hint at plans for Injustice 3 last year, as well as more DC projects from Rocksteady. It’s entirely possible that NetherRealm Studios is working on the next Mortal Kombat, but it really seems like Injustice 3 will happen first. A new DC fighting game would give NetherRealm’s premier fighting franchise a chance to take some time off, especially since Mortal Kombat 1 sales seemed to underperform expectations.

With the many Injustice 3 leaks and rumors that have been going around the last few years, fans can’t be blamed for getting a little impatient. There hasn’t been a lot to celebrate in terms of DC games over the last few years, between the critical and commercial flop of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, and the cancellation of Monolith’s Wonder Woman. Hopefully, next month’s LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will change that trend, and give DC fans something to enjoy while they wait for possible Injustice news.
