Marvel’s Wolverine is still on track for its September 15 release date, Insomniac Games has confirmed. It has been a long and mostly silent wait for the game, with many fans growing impatient as the PS5 nears the end of its life cycle without the promised exclusive. Thankfully, the end is in sight, and Marvel’s Wolverine will be firmly in gamers’ hands in a matter of months.
After finally revealing a release date, Insomniac has gone back to relative secrecy, regularly posting brief gameplay clips and teasers but not giving away any new information. While the studio has promised more Wolverine details are coming before Spring is up, there’s still no word on when exactly that will happen or what those specifics could be. A rumored timeline for a Wolverine-focused State of Play has come and gone, but Insomniac has stepped in to reassure fans that things are still progressing smoothly.

Insomniac Doubles Down on Wolverine’s September Release Date
In a short but sweet May 7 tweet, Insomniac reiterated that Marvel’s Wolverine will release on September 15, as it first promised in February. The post contained no other details apart from a link to wishlist the game on the PlayStation Store, but if nothing else, it’s a reassuring sign that there haven’t been any delays since the initial release date reveal. Insomniac and Sony likely want to avoid any delays as much as possible, too, given that there isn’t much wiggle room between September and the impending launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 in November, which will be hard to compete against.

It may not be the news some fans were hoping for, but it is characteristic of how Insomniac has approached the game’s publicity. The company first unveiled Marvel’s Wolverine in 2021 and has offered precious little in much of the time that followed. While there’s now a release date and another full-length trailer to dig into on top of the initial teaser, Insomniac has gone for long stretches without announcing any new information in between these drops. There will be at least one more Wolverine update before it releases, but fans are still waiting on that for now.
Insomniac has previously stated that it’s holding off on Marvel’s Wolverine pre-orders for now because it wants to show off more gameplay first. That could suggest that whatever information is in store for later this Spring is a gameplay trailer or deep dive. With September getting ever closer, it won’t be long before gamers know for sure, even if the exact timeline for this reveal remains a mystery.

Many PlayStation users were likely hoping Wolverine would arrive a little sooner after it was first unveiled five years ago. On the other hand, a release so late in the PS5’s life cycle does seem fitting. Insomniac helped usher in the console with Spider-Man: Miles Morales being one of the highest-rated PS5 launch titles, so another Marvel game toward the end of the system’s life is an appropriate bookend. Of course, there’s no guarantee of when the PS6 will release, either, so there could still be plenty more to come for the PS5 after Wolverine releases.
