Spoilers for Amazon’s Invincible Show and the Recently Released Invincible VS Fighting Game Ahead

Ahead of Invincible VS‘s release, developer Quarter Up and publisher Skybound Games confirmed that 18 heroes and villains would make up the roster. Among others, Angstrom Levy is one of the most noteworthy characters missing from Invincible VS‘s roster. It was already a hard pill to swallow that his dimension-hopping powers wouldn’t be present in the gameplay, but Invincible VS’s story mode actually makes it even worse.

It’s been a hot minute since Invincible fans have even seen Angstrom Levy. The timing between Invincible‘s recent Season 4 finale and Invincible VS‘s release is no coincidence, but in both, there was neither hair nor hide of Angstrom Levy. Currently caught up in his deal with the technicians (in the show), he’s incapable of pursuing his all-consuming vengeance against Mark—nobody hates quite like Angstrom Levy hates. But that pure, visceral hatred is missing in Invincible VS despite every indication he should be there.

Invincible: All 18 Alternate Dimension Invincibles & Their Fates

Every alternate version of Mark Grayson has their fates revealed below thanks to the Invincible comics that showcase what happens to these villains.

Invincible VS’s Story Mode Basically Leans on Angstrom Levy’s In-Universe Identity

In Invincible VS‘s Story Mode, players will discover that the beloved titular hero, several Guardians and other heroes, as well as some Viltrumites, have all been captured by unknown assailants. They are trapped in some kind of dome that’s forcing them to hallucinate nearby enemies, with the twist being that everyone has been captured by the Technicians. The Technicians are harvesting energy from the character’s fights, and just off the rip that screams Angstrom Levy. His presence in the show, including the fact that he’s still alive, is due to the Technicians, and no in-universe changes (at least explained by this story mode) suggest why Angstrom Levy is not involved.

As Invincible VS‘s Story Mode comes to an end, an abrupt cliff-hanger showing Earth being mined by the Technicians, it seems this could all be attributed to some plan of Angstrom Levy’s. At the very least, while it could just be the Technicians, it’s hard to imagine him not being involved. His absence was already bad, but the story mode makes it even more gut-wrenching.

The one good possibility to come out of this is Invincible VS‘s upcoming DLC characters. Reputable leaker MultiverSusie claims that, among others, Angstrom Levy is coming at some point in the future. Beyond Levy, Immortal and Universa have been confirmed by Quarter Up, with The Mauler Twins, Agent Spider, Damien Darkblood, Oliver, Dinosaurus, and Volcanikka. It remains to be seen, but at the very least, they would bring him into the fold.

Even more afield, hopefully the DLC characters come with new story chapters or something to that effect. The Story Mode’s ending is incredibly abrupt, but it’s easy to see how all of the aforementioned characters could be pulled into the story. As players fight their way through everything, they could ultimately end up at Angstrom Levy, defeat him, but also face Dinosaurus and Volcanikka because of the damage from these mines. Whatever happens, Invincible VS‘s Story Mode ending just does not gel with Angstrom’s absence at all.
