‘It’s All Going to Change’ Pocketpair Teases Massive Palworld 1.0 Launch

The 1.0 version of Palworld aims to deliver a survival crafting experience that “everyone always wanted,” a senior Pocketpair official said. The remarks were part of a broader preview of the hit game’s near future, indicating that Palworld is set for a major overhaul later in 2026.

Pocketpair’s survival-crafting game featuring monster taming took the world by storm after its early 2024 debut, selling about 25 million copies in its first 18 months on the market. That figure came despite more than 7 million people playing Palworld via Xbox Game Pass, with Microsoft’s service presumably lowering the title’s lifetime sales tally. In September 2026, the Japanese developer officially committed to bringing its hit game out of early access in 2026.

Palworld 1.0 is Probably Just the Tip of the Iceberg

Now that there’s a launch window for Palworld 1.0, the long-awaited update is bound to be just the beginning of something more.

Pocketpair Says Palworld 1.0 Will Overhaul Early, Mid, and Endgame Content

In a recent interview at the Game Developers Conference, Pocketpair Publishing head and Palworld communications lead John “Bucky” Buckley discussed the upcoming 1.0 update, describing it as a comprehensive revamp of many of the hit game’s systems. “I think every survival crafting gamer has their, like, ideal version of what survival crafting should be, and we hope Palworld 1.0 will be that kind of something for everyone,” Buckley told GamesRadar+. He clarified that the long-awaited exit from early access aims to not only expand endgame content but also improve the early and middle portions so that the full progression arc feels more complete.

Buckley’s comments reinforce what Pocketpair has been signaling since late summer 2025: that Palworld‘s 1.0 patch will overhaul the game so extensively that it may feel like a substantially more fleshed out experience. While the update will remain compatible with saves from the early access build, Buckley said the scale of the changes may give many players a reason to start over with a new character. Returning to Level 1 will reportedly be the only way to experience everything the 1.0 version of Palworld has to offer. “It’s all going to change,” Buckley said, citing that as the reason Pocketpair will “softly recommend” fans to start from scratch.

Palworld 1.0 Update Set to Add New Pals to the Game

While the Japanese developer is still keeping many details of the 1.0 patch under wraps, it has already teased several new Pals set to arrive as part of the major content update. The additions include a massive whale, twin ghostly creatures and a puffy two-tone bird. Pocketpair also shared glimpses of a red water lily dragon, a distinctive eel and an electric dog Pal planned for the 1.0 update.

Palworld 1.0 Will Likely Not be the End of the Game’s Development

While the 1.0 patch will most likely be the single brightest highlight of Palworld‘s 2026 roadmap, it will not necessarily mark the end of the game’s development. Buckley was just recently quoted as saying that he would not rule out the possibility of Palworld 2.0 in the future, signaling that Pocketpair is very much interested in continuing to expand its game. The remarks were in line with his 2025 statements suggesting the Japanese developer has plenty of ideas for supporting the hit survival crafting title beyond its early access period. Separately, the studio continues to expand the Palworld universe, which is scheduled to receive a physical card game later in 2026.

In addition to being sold on PC and consoles, Palworld is also currently available via three tiers of Xbox Game Pass, where it launched as a day-one title in January 2024. With Pocketpair’s title now surpassing the two-year mark as part of Microsoft’s subscription content catalog, it is looking increasingly likely that Palworld 1.0 will also be available to Xbox Game Pass members.
