It’s Not Just You, Several Major ISPs Are Having Problems Right Now

James Ratcliff joined Game Rant in 2022 as a Gaming News Writer. In 2023, James was offered a chance to become an occasional feature writer for different games and then a Senior Author in 2025. He is a third-generation Texan who has written professionally for over a decade, addressing various topics for his readers.

Several Internet providers and services, including Amazon Web Services, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon are experiencing a major service outage across parts of the US. Although companies like Verizon have since issued statements about the ongoing situation, the outage also affects services powered by AWS and other companies.

The problems were first reported to Down Detector just before Noon Eastern on Wednesday, January 14. By 12:41 PM Eastern, 175, 658 users reported issues with Verizon’s mobile services, with 485 separate reports for FIOS, Verizon’s home Fiber Internet service branch. On similar scales, both AT&T and T-Mobile had over 1,800 outages reported across the country. Affected users saw their 4G and 5G signals on their mobile phones changed to SOS Only mode, which can prohibit calls and texts from being sent out normally.

As of this writing, the outages continued to affect customers in the US. Verizon issued a statement on social media stating it was aware of the problems, and that its engineering teams were working to restore service as soon as possible. T-Mobile stated that, while its services had returned to normal, customers trying to call or text Verizon users may not be able to reach them. AT&T, AWS, and Xfinity have not yet publicly commented on the problem.

This is a developing news story. This post will be updated as soon as all functions have been restored to all impacted providers.
