Kakariko Village and its Graveyard are areas in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake situated to the east of Hyrule Castle Town. Players will first visit those areas while pursuing the Spiritual Stone of Fire, and there are a number of items, Heart Pieces, and Gold Skulltulas to be found there. This guide will help players track down all the collectibles in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time‘s Kakariko Village and Graveyard.

This guide focuses on items that are accessible during the first trip to Kakariko Village. As such, it does not go into detail on items like the Heart Piece behind the house in the southwest corner of the village, which cannot be collected until you have claimed the Hookshot.

Kakariko Village & Graveyard Songs

Sun’s Song

Where to Get Sun's Song in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake.

The Sun’s Song lets you switch between day and night. Here’s how to get it:

  1. Go to the large grave on the east side of the graveyard.
  2. Stand on the Triforce in front of the grave and play Zelda’s Lullaby on your ocarina to open a path into the tomb.
  3. Go to the final room in the tomb and interact with the headstone to learn the Sun’s Song.

Kakariko Village & Graveyard Items & Equipment

Empty Bottle

You can earn an Empty Bottle by finding seven cuccos throughout Kakariko Village and returning them to the pin in the southwest corner of the area, near the red-haired woman. Check our All Cucco Locations in Kakariko Village guide if you need help finding any of these birds.

Hylian Shield

There is a row of five headstones in the southeast corner of the Graveyard, just west of the tomb where you learn Sun’s Song. Pull the second headstone from the left to reveal a hole in the ground. Drop into the hole and open the chest at the bottom to earn a free Hylian Shield.

This needs to be done at night, as a child will prevent you from pulling the headstone during the day. Use Sun’s Song to instantly change the time of day if necessary.

Kakariko Village & Graveyard Heart Pieces

As previously noted, there is a Heart Piece behind the house in the southwest corner of the map that can’t be claimed during the initial visit to the area. Plan to return to Kakariko Village for that collectible after you have the Hookshot.

Heart Piece #1

There is a man on top of the potion shop in the northeast quadrant of Kakariko Village, and you can get a Heart Piece by speaking with him. You can reach that man by grabbing the cucco by the windmill, jumping from the ledge just east of the shop, and gliding to the roof. Check our How to Save the Man in Kakariko Village guide if you need further assistance.

If you’ve already returned the cucco to its pin, you can use the Hookshot to reach the roof once you obtain that item.

Heart Piece #2

There is a row of five headstones in the southeast corner of the Graveyard, just west of the tomb where you learn Sun’s Song. Pull the far right headstone to reveal a hole in the ground. Drop into the hole and open the chest at the bottom to claim a Heart Piece.

This needs to be done at night, as a child will prevent you from pulling the headstone during the day. Use Sun’s Song to instantly change the time of day if necessary.

Heart Piece #3

There is an NPC named Dampe in the Graveyard at night. Talk to him to start the Diggin’ Tour, and then pay him to dig up the dirt spots that appear until he hits a Heart Piece.

The dirt spot that contains the Heart Piece is randomized. It is recommended that you make a save just before starting the tour and reload if Dampe doesn’t hit the collectible in a couple digs. This will save you some rupees.

Kakariko Village & Graveyard Gold Skulltulas

Gold Skulltula #1

Roll into the tree you encounter upon entering Kakariko Village. A Gold Skulltula will fall from it.

Gold Skulltula #2

A Gold Skulltula can be found by the door of the Gold Skulltula house (southeast corner) at night.

Make sure to revisit this house once you’ve collected 10 Gold Skulltula to claim your first reward: the Adult’s Wallet.

Gold Skulltula #3

There is a Gold Skulltula on the wall of the construction site (southwest quadrant) at night.

Gold Skulltula #4

There is a Gold Skulltula on the ladder that leads to the top of the tower (northwest quadrant) at night.

Gold Skulltula #5

A Gold Skulltula appears behind the house at the northwest corner of the village at night.

Gold Skulltula #6

There is a Gold Skulltula in a mound of soil in the northwest corner of the Graveyard. Here’s how to get it:

  1. Get an Empty Bottle. The one that comes from returning the seven cuccos in Kakariko Village is a great option.
  2. Enter the graveyard and immediately look right to find a stone. Lift the stone to reveal a bug and catch it in your bottle.
  3. Use the bug-filled bottle on the soil mound to reveal the Gold Skulltula.

There are plenty of other bugs to catch throughout Hyrule if the one in the graveyard isn’t available.
