Kirby creator Masahiro Sakurai recently posted some snaps of his meal at one of Japan’s Kirby Cafes, and it wasn’t long before he pulled a knife on his favorite child. Things started innocently enough, with a few pictures of what looks like a delicious meal themed around the adorable pink blob:

And then things quickly got morbid, as Sakurai took a stab at some dark humor. Alas, poor Kirby, we knew him well, a fellow of infinite appetite and of most excellent fancy.

Before things turned dark, Sakurai’s meal looked like a delicious tribute to his creation. An artistic piece of cuisine designed to fill a patron up–if they have the stomach to cut into it–it’s one of several items on the menu, alongside soft pancakes, pizza, and milkshakes that all evoke sweet memories of Kirby and his world.
Meanwhile, Kirby fans have been eating well with recent releases on the Switch 2. Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s Star-Crossed DLC made a great game even better, a classic Kirby title was added to the Switch Online Game Boy library last year, and Kirby Air Riders capped off a busy 2025 for the pink blob.
What’s next for the Nintendo icon? While no new game has been announced yet, he could play a part in Nintendo’s efforts to expand beyond video games and into movies. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa sees the potential to grow its IP with multimedia projects. For now, it’s focused on the launch of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda that’s currently scheduled to be released in 2027.
