Koei Tecmo Reports Record Profits

Koei Tecmo Reports Record Profits

Koei Tecmo has announced that it has seen record-setting profits through the fiscal year ending in March 2026. The tenured Japanese game developer and publisher, which rebranded slightly from Tecmo Koei to Koei Tecmo in 2014, has a long and respected history as a premiere force in the video game industry.

Although gaming is not its only line of business, Koei Tecmo has released a litany of well-received titles throughout its impressive run. The most popular franchises under the brand include the Dead or Alive fighting game series, which serves as an extension of the popular and well-respected Ninja Gaiden franchise. Koei Tecmo is also responsible for the beloved Dynasty Warriors games, which popularized the musou genre of action games, as well as a handful of spin-off titles for other IP such as Pokemon, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid.

Sega Reports Second Year of Declining Revenue, But With Some Good News

Sega Sammy shares its financial report for fiscal year 2025, reporting yet another revenue drop mixed with some encouraging signals.

Koei Tecmo Releases Financial Report for the 2025 Fiscal Year

Koei Tecmo has reported record profits for the fiscal year spanning from April 2025 to March 2026. The brand’s newly released reports detail the increase in sales, net profits, ordinary profits, and operating profits, indicating that the business is moving at a healthy rate year over year. The company’s operating profits saw a 15.7 percent increase year-over-year, and net profits improved by 13.8 percent. Sales numbers saw an increase of 6.3 percent over 2025, with a strong suite of gaming releases helping to bolster those impressive numbers.

Koei Tecmo’s video game output through the 2025 fiscal year has been particularly strong, with multiple titles selling upwards of 1 million units. These games include the massively successful Pokemon Pokopia, which Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force co-developed along with Game Freak, and Nioh 3, which became the Nioh franchise’s fastest-selling entry within its first two weeks on store shelves. 2025 also saw the release of Ninja Gaiden 4, arriving shortly after a remastered version of Ninja Gaiden 2 renewed interest in the long-dormant series.

With its history of taking fan-favorite franchises in bold new directions, Koei Tecmo has increased its foothold in the gaming space beyond even its own long-lasting IP. Milestones such as Pokemon Pokopia selling 2.2 million units in less than a week show that the developer and publisher can handle the pressure of diverting expectations, playing a major part in delivering something unexpected to even the most diehard video game fan bases. The company’s output during this fiscal year also kept its numbers high, with 14 titles releasing within the period across consoles and PC, including smaller titles like Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound.

Koei Tecmo’s output doesn’t look to be slowing any time soon. Dead or Alive 6: Last Round has been announced for a June 2026 release, with additional content and game modes being added to the popular fighting game. The future of the Dead or Alive series was also teased during this announcement, hinting at the resurgence of one of the company’s most successful brands. Things appear to be trending in the right direction for the legendary game company.
