Leaker Gives Update on Persona 6 and Persona 4 Revival

Leaker Gives Update on Persona 6 and Persona 4 Revival

Persona 6 is not in development hell, a well-known leaker has claimed, dismissing fan concerns stemming from Atlus’s years-long silence on the project. The same source also shared new insights about Persona 4 Revival, which indirectly shed more light on the current development status of Persona 6.

The first official acknowledgment of Persona 6 dates back to July 2021, when Atlus published several job listings on the Japanese website Green. Each posting included a quote from Naoto Hiraoka, an executive producer at Atlus, stating that the company was hiring additional staff for Persona 6 due to rising fan expectations. “Exceeding [Persona] 5 will be difficult with the current staff,” the quote read, though it did not clarify the project’s development status at the time.

Despite Taking a While, Persona 6 Is Reportedly Not In Development Hell

While Atlus still hasn’t revealed Persona 6 four and a half years later, progress on the game is believed to be steady. That’s suggested by a recent update from established leaker NateTheHate, who stated on December 12 that the project is not in development hell. The remark was made in response to a concerned fan referencing a May 2023 report from the same Persona 6 leaker, which claimed that Atlus was internally targeting a 2024 release. If taken at face value, the implication is that the project has since been delayed, though NateTheHate did not offer further details on what may have caused the shift.

Atlus Isn’t Leading Development on Persona 4 Revival, It’s Claimed

Separately, NateTheHate has also commented on Persona 4 Revival, the remake of Atlus’s critically acclaimed 2008 JRPG, which was officially announced in June 2025. The insider clarified that Atlus is not leading development on the project, which has instead been outsourced to Kyoto-based Tose Software. Founded in 1979, Tose is one of the world’s largest outsourcing game developers. According to a November report from Japanese outlet GameBiz, Atlus and Square Enix were Tose’s two largest clients over the past year, accounting for more than 22% of the company’s 2025 revenue.

Persona 6 Could Still Beat Persona 4 Revival to the Market

The fact that Atlus is only overseeing the upcoming remake suggests Persona 4 Revival isn’t affecting Persona 6 development like some fans originally feared. Instead, its internal P-Studio—formerly known as Creative Department 2nd Production—may be fully focused on Persona 6 as of late 2025. Given that the game has been in development since at least 2021, and with modern AAA development cycles averaging around five years, there remains a theoretical possibility that Persona 6 could release before Persona 4 Revival despite not even being officially announced yet.

Atlus Doesn’t Always Announce Games in Release Order

In recent history, there have been several examples of Atlus announcing a game, then announcing a different title that beats the first one to the market. Metaphor: ReFantazio was initially revealed as Project Re:Fantasy in December 2016 but did not launch until October 2024; in the meantime, Shin Megami Tensei 5 was announced and released in January 2017 and November 2021, respectively. Similarly, Persona 5 Royal was both announced (December 2018) and released (March 2020) during the gap between SMT 5’s reveal and eventual launch.

Persona 4 Revival was announced at the June 2025 Xbox Games Showcase without a release window, suggesting it may still be years from completion. While it remains unclear how far along Persona 6 is in development, Atlus will soon have a natural opportunity to finally share some details on the project, with the franchise’s 30th anniversary approaching in September 2026.
