Lord of Hatred’s Gem Rework is a Massive Game-Changer

Lord of Hatred’s Gem Rework is a Massive Game-Changer

Diablo 4 is overhauling Gem socketing in Lord of Hatred, which will have major implications for every single build in the entire game. What on the surface seems like a small adjustment could actually be one of the most impactful changes in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred.

Gem socketing in Diablo 4 is a core element of crafting a build, especially in the early game. Right now, Gems provide additional bonuses to specific stats, which can be useful in giving each build a little bit of extra power. However, they’re not anywhere close to being powerful enough to define a build, meaning that they’re something that a lot of players start to forget about near the endgame. This is something that Blizzard wants to address in Lord of Hatred.

Diablo 4 Finally Reveals Neyrelle’s Fate in Lord of Hatred

Diablo 4 finally answers the question that has been lingering on everyone’s minds: how does Neyrelle play into the story of Lord of Hatred?

Gems Get a Big Buff in Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred

Ahead of Lord of Hatred‘s launch, Blizzard revealed the patch notes for Diablo 4‘s 3.0.1 update, which will be the live build of the game when the expansion is released. One particular line will have an enormous impact on the game and its builds, reading, “All Gems have new multiplicative damage bonuses when socketed into weapons.” At the moment, Gems have additive stats, which in the endgame won’t have too much impact on a powerful build. By making these bonuses multiplicative, Blizzard ensures they scale with the entire build and makes them something players need to actively consider to keep their character as powerful as possible.

The changes don’t stop there. Blizzard has also changed every Gem so that they now have damage multipliers based on specific elemental types. For example, because a Topaz now adds a Lightning Damage bonus, it may become a popular option for Diablo 4 Sorcerers building around Chain Lightning. It’s all about giving players more build options and amplifying the importance of Gems, which previously had become all too easy to ignore.

Diablo 4 Lord of Hatred New Gem Damage Bonuses

  • Amethyst: Shadow Damage
  • Diamond: All Damage
  • Emerald: Poison Damage
  • Ruby: Fire and Holy Damage
  • Sapphire: Cold Damage
  • Skull: Physical Damage
  • Topaz: Lightning Damage

As Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred approaches, fans are getting a much better idea of how the expansion is going to change the base game. Multiple Diablo 4 classes are getting a big buff in Lord of Hatred, which hopefully means that there will be tons of unique builds that make the most of the expansion’s new features. It’s going to be a very exciting period for the game as the expansion prepares to drop on April 28, 2026.

While Diablo 4 wasn’t exactly beloved among fans upon launch in 2023, Blizzard has done a great job at improving the game in the years since. Recent seasons have proven very popular with fans, and the developer seems to have a handle on what they are looking for in seasonal content. The Diablo 4: Lord of Hatred reviews indicate that the studio has managed to finish the Age of Hatred arc in impressive fashion, continuing the trend of strong content drops for the game.
