Magic: The Gathering Quietly Adds Jaw-Dropping Combo to Win in 3 Turns

Magic: The Gathering Quietly Adds Jaw-Dropping Combo to Win in 3 Turns

Magic: The Gathering‘s new Reality Fracture set introduces a mind-blowing 3-turn combo that wins the game on the spot. Wizards of the Coast’s TCG can be as much about collecting cool cards and playing relaxed games every now and then as it can be about making vicious combos work to defeat one’s opponents and catch them off guard. This has always been the case, ever since the first set was released in 1993, but modern Magic: The Gathering makes both ends of the spectrum more enjoyable and accessible.

With many new cards, interesting takes on existing characters and locations, and a whole new set of Echoverse “Strixhaven” schools, the newest set in the game is already a success. And yet, Magic: The Gathering‘s Reality Fracture ends a 20-year era by killing off the iconic face of the game, the Blue planeswalker Jace Beleren, now turned antagonist. Even though Reality Fracture just came out two days ago, fans are already finding new ways to play established decks or, in some cases, make entirely new combos with effective win conditions.

The 30 Rarest Magic: The Gathering Cards (And How Much They’re Worth)

Magic: The Gathering has some of the rarest, most valuable cards of any TCG, and collectors are still tripping over themselves to find these pieces.

New MTG Reality Fracture Card Enables Turn-3 Win Combo With Thassa’s Oracle

Magic: The Gathering icon and content creator Tolarian Community College, also known as The Professor, highlighted a new combo for the Pioneer format using the Jace’s Machinations card from Reality Fracture. In a perfect world, the combo starts with the recently banned MTG card Gran-Gran, still available in Pioneer, on the first turn. Accompanied by Mox Amber, this allows players to cast either Kasmina, Enigma Sage or Jace’s Machinations on the second turn, and then the remaining card between the two on turn three. With Jace’s Machinations, players create a Jace planeswalker token with 8 loyalty counters on it, and Kasmina, Enigma Sage makes all other planeswalkers have its abilities. Kasmina’s -8 ability allows the user to search the library for an instant or sorcery card and cast it for free. As such, players can search for and cast Enter the Infinite, a 12-mana sorcery that draws the entire deck but one card, then play two copies of Mox Amber, tap them for Blue mana, and finally cast Thassa’s Oracle to win.

Between MTG cards that combo with themselves, self-sustained combos, and game-breaking combos that win the game on the spot, this is more on the cEDH (competitive Commander) scale than regular Pioneer in terms of power. It’s an incredible combo to catch opponents off guard because, while technically it can be interrupted with a well-placed counterspell, including multiple copies of each card means that it can be achieved later on anyway. Since this is an instant-win condition, opponents need to be on the lookout if they want to actively hinder the combo. Still, countering Thassa’s Oracle would leave the user with their whole deck in hand until the end of next turn, so winning is very possible. The only way would be to counter Kasmina, Jace’s Machinations, or Enter the Infinite.

Reality Fracture has been a pleasure for many fans to discover as a set. Among other cards, Magic: The Gathering brought Tarmogoyf back with the new set as a Mythic card. While not as powerful as in 2007, it’s still an amazing and iconic card.
