Major Diablo 2 DLC Adds Features Fans Have Waited Decades For–But It'll Cost You

Diablo 2 fans are finally receiving new content for Diablo franchise’s 30th anniversary, as Blizzard has revealed a new DLC for Diablo 2: Resurrected that will add a new class alongside some of the community’s most-requested features, albeit for a price.

Starting today, players will be able to purchase the Reign of the Warlock DLC for $25. While the new Warlock class, which uses summoned demons both to fight and to sacrifice in order to gain buffs, is the most notable inclusion, the community is likely to be just as excited about some of the other additions coming as part of the Reign of the Warlock: a loot filter and enhanced stash tabs.

Both have been among the top features requested by the community for decades. Players have long resorted to using third-party mods or external tools for loot filters, but that will no longer be required going forward. Blizzard notes that players will not only be able to set up their own loot filters, but they will also be able to share or select custom loot filters made by others in the community.

As for stash tabs, players will finally have dedicated tabs for materials, runes, and gems. Items in tabs can also now be stacked, making for far easier inventory management than ever before. A new Chronicle feature additionally serves as a library of knowledge pertaining to all the loot a player has ever collected, including showing where each item dropped from.

That’s a lot coming to what is essentially a 25-year-old game, but Blizzard is additionally adding more challenges for players to overcome as well. Rather than a new difficulty setting, Blizzard is instead enhancing the Terror Zones idea it introduced with the game’s 2.5 patch back in 2022. In Reign of the Warlock, consumable items can be used by players to choose which of the game’s Acts become terrorized, making each of its zones and boss battles more difficult but also more rewarding.

Terror Zones aren’t just a way to increase the difficulty, but also the key to some of the game’s new endgame boss battles. On Hell difficulty, players will be hunted by Heralds of Terror, enemies that become more dangerous each time they’re encountered. Taking down Terrorized versions of Act bosses on Hell difficulty will additionally have a chance to drop one of five mystical statues. Combining all five in the Horadric Cube unlocks an all-new boss battle against the Colossal Ancients, a fight that Blizzard said is “designed to push your skills and builds to the next level.” You can check out a gallery of Diablo 2’s new features below.

Blizzard revealed the year ahead for the Diablo franchise during a recent Diablo 30th Anniversary Spotlight, where it also shared new details on what’s next for Diablo 4 and Diablo Immortal. In addition to all three current Diablo games receiving the Warlock, Blizzard also unveiled its new War Plans endgame for Diablo 4 and detailed other features coming to the latest game in the series, including the return of the Horadric Cube, Charms, and a loot filter.
