- How To Trade For Flour & Bread In Manor Lords
Manor Lords, the highly-anticipated survival settlement builder game, has a variety of complex resource chains designed to provide beginner players with a challenge as they try to meet the needs of their medieval settlers. Bread, an essential food resource in the game, is at the end point of one such resource chain.
Farming in Manor Lords is a bit more complex than in other, similar, city building games, so it pays to have an idea of exactly what needs to be done to provide citizens with their daily bread.
Manor Lords: 6 Best Backyard Extensions
Family homes in Manor Lords can produce goods for their village if they construct backyard extensions, which will produce food or vital goods.
How To Produce Flour & Bread In Your Settlement
Many fans of city builder games enjoy producing things in-house, and the benefits include providing jobs to unassigned families and more control over the production. In Manor Lords, the production of bread in your settlement is worthwhile thanks to providing a number of different types of job, although it is a bit more complex than simply purchasing one.
Zone A Wheat Farm
Farming in Manor Lords relies on a few different factors, the most important being the fertility of the soil. Different areas of the map have different fertility for different kinds of crop, so it’s important to site a farm intended for wheat production in a place where the fertility for wheat is mostly in the green zone. This will allow for the best yields of wheat.
Zoning of farms works in much the same way as Burgage Plots and Marketplaces, so it’s just a matter of finding a good spot and zoning a farm that makes the best use of it.
It’s a good idea to zone two farms at the same time, each one roughly the same size, as Manor Lords has a farming mechanic where the fertility of a farm drops the more it’s used. To capitalize on two farms, focus on one at a time, leaving the field fallow the year after harvesting it so that it regenerates fertility, then shift production to the other field during that time. This isn’t essential โ it’s just helpful.
Build A Farmhouse & Define Its Work Zone
Manor Lords requires its field to be worked by dedicated farmers, and these can be assigned at a Farm House building. Farm Houses can be given an undefined work zone, but it’s often a good idea to define the work zone so that farmers don’t have to travel too far to work.
Once done, farmers will work the fields whenever they’re set to produce crops, and leave them alone when set to be fallow for fertility regeneration.
Build A Windmill To Process Wheat
Citizens in Manor Lords need to process their wheat into flour before they can make bread, and they can only do this at a dedicated Windmill building. The Windmill building benefits from being placed in an area free from trees or other structures, with its efficiency dropping as its zone is encroached upon.
It’s still a good idea to site the windmill close to the area of production, though, or at least near to well-staffed Granaries and Storehouses.
Build A Communal Oven To Bake Bread
To actually process the flour into bread, citizens in Manor Lords need an oven. The Communal Oven structure allows families to be assigned to it who will become bakers and produce bread from stores of flour. The Communal Oven works well near Farm Houses and Windmills but can also be sited near to well-staffed Granaries and Storehouses for efficiency of production.

How To Trade For Flour & Bread In Manor Lords
Trading for flour or bread is simpler than having to produce it and its various component parts, but it does rely on production of other, salable resources for the trade system. For players who don’t want to mess around with farms โ or who want to farm something else โ trading is a good option (and exceedingly simple).
First, players will need to build the Trading Post building, located in the construction tool’s trade tab. After that it’s simply a matter of trading Treasury for flour or bread as desired.
