Marathon Is Live, But Deluxe Edition And Other Bonuses May Be Missing For Now

Bungie’s sci-fi extraction shooter Marathon is now live, but many of the rewards players have earned either by buying the game’s Deluxe Edition, watching on Twitch, or playing the Server Slam aren’t yet accessible.

As broken down in a post from the official Marathon Discord server, preorder items may take up to 24 hours to appear in-game. Twitch Drop rewards from the game’s Server Slam may take 48 hours to appear. Other rewards earned by playing the Server Slam, like Arrival Caches, should be rolling out shortly, Bungie said.

“So if you don’t see them upon logging in, hold tight–they should arrive soon,” Bungie said.

Those who purchased Marathon’s Deluxe Edition are supposed to receive a voucher for the season’s Rewards Pass as well as other items, but that doesn’t appear to be the case for some players. Bungie has stated it’s currently investigating the issue and will report back when it has more details. It is additionally investigating an issue where Lux purchases (Marathon’s premium currency) aren’t properly appearing in players’ accounts.

Aside from the reward hiccups, Marathon’s servers appear to be stable. The game is currently the number two best-selling game on Steam, and its concurrent player count on the platform continues to rise, with 86,000 players at time of writing. Bungie had previously warned that there was potential for brief server queues depending on the number of players attempting to explore Marathon’s mystery planet of Tau Ceti IV on launch day.

Bungie recently elaborated on how Marathon is monetized and how its seasonal structure will play out. The game does not feature any “pay for power” mechanics, and items and upgrades earned over the course of a season will reset with the subsequent one. An in-game currency called Silk, earned by playing, is used to unlock items in the game’s Rewards Pass, while Lux is used strictly for cosmetics.

For those who want more cosmetics, players can purchase the premium version of the Rewards Pass for additional Runner Shell and weapon appearances. Premium Reward Passes won’t expire, and can even be purchased after the end of their respective season.

Marathon is available now on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC via Steam. It’s Bungie’s first new game launch since Destiny 2 in 2017, though the shooter-MMO has received numerous expansions over the last decade.
