Dataminers may have found evidence that Mario Kart World could be getting new drivers through DLC down the line. The new discovery has sparked some excitement within the Mario Kart World player community.
Mario Kart World has a large character roster to begin with, with 50 individual characters and a wide variety of costumes for them to choose from. However, for a series as long-running as Mario, there are still plenty of candidates that haven’t made the cut that fans would like to see, including some racers that were present in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that are still missing in Mario Kart World.
Mario Kart World Datamining Discovery Reveals Cut Racers
Dataminers have been poring over the files of Mario Kart World recently, and have discovered some code referring to drivers that don’t currently exist in the game. The first driver reference discovered was Spiny, who dataminer Benial discovered is listed under its internal code name and original Japanese name, Togezo, in the files. From there, another dataminer by the name of MondoMega uncovered numerous other references to drivers, including their weight classes, who aren’t actually usable in the game. The other drivers listed include Thwomp, Blooper, Ninji, Goomba Twins, Chain Chomp, and Fuzzy. Additional development names include Bird and Banana, but it’s unclear what they may be referring to.
While there’s no guarantee that these characters will necessarily be added at a later date, the files seem to indicate that they may have been in development at one point. It’s possible that they may have been cut due to time restrictions or other development issues. Players seem to be particularly intrigued by the idea of Chain Chomp, Thwomp, and Spiny as being playable characters. Chain Chomp has been modded into Mario Kart as a driver in the past, so seeing it on an official roster would make some fans happy.

Nintendo hasn’t given any indication of paid DLC or new additions to the character roster being in the picture. However, Nintendo made some significant additions to its predecessor, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, long after it initially launched in 2017. Most players likely weren’t expecting Mario Kart 8 Deluxe to get the Booster Course Pass five years after the release of the game, especially with it already being an effectively expanded version of 2014’s Mario Kart 8. By the end of 2023, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe had gained eight additional racers, so it’s not out of the question for Mario Kart World to get major DLC even years from now.
Even if these characters do eventually get put into the game, though, some fans aren’t happy that the list is missing some popular names. The absence of Diddy Kong was one particular sore spot, while others wished that the unique members of the Super Mario RPG cast had gotten a chance. It’s possible that more playable characters may be planned or worked on since the game shipped, though, so fans shouldn’t give up on their favorites just yet. For now, though, players should take these found files with a grain of salt, as only Nintendo knows what the future holds for Mario Kart World.
