A new update has been released for Mario Tennis Fever on Nintendo Switch 2, and it should be a relief to fans of the game’s online modes. Released in February, Mario Tennis Fever is the latest in Nintendo and Camelot’s long-running sports series. Nintendo’s mustachioed mascot has proven adept at many sports outside of tennis, including golf, soccer, baseball, and basketball.
The Super Mario supporting cast has long been one of the highlights of the games and their spin-offs. Mario Tennis Fever features 38 playable characters, from heroes like Yoshi and Donkey Kong to villains such as Bowser Jr. and Spike. Each character has their own strengths and weaknesses, so players have to find the ones that work best for their specific play style.

Mario Tennis Fever’s New Update
The latest update for Mario Tennis Fever is now live on Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the game up to version 1.0.3. This update is meant to address a bug related to the game’s ranked matches. The bug was apparently preventing ranks from adjusting at their normal time, and that situation has now been resolved. That’s fairly specific compared to Mario Tennis Fever’s March update, which had several player changes. Nintendo has stated that more balance changes are on the way, though.
Overall, critical reception for Mario Tennis Fever has been positive. While the game has not received nearly the level of praise as Pokemon Pokopia, some have referred to it as the best entry in the Mario Tennis series. The game has only been out for about two months now, and it will be up to the fans to decide if that ranking holds true. As Nintendo continues to refine the game and make adjustments to balance while squashing pesky bugs, it’s possible the game’s perception could continue to improve.
Mario Tennis Fever was one of the first Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives for 2026. There are several others on the way before the end of the year, including Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, and the July-releasing Splatoon Raiders. Nintendo continues to support the original Switch as well, with Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream released earlier this month, and Rhythm Heaven Groove set to arrive in the summer. Beyond those games, Nintendo also has a number of new amiibo coming out, based on games like Resident Evil Requiem and Kirby Air Riders.

Unfortunately, Nintendo’s plans for the rest of 2026 remain a big mystery. A Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is rumored for Nintendo Switch 2 later this year, as well as a new Star Fox game. Nothing has been confirmed just yet, though, leaving fans to speculate. Traditionally, Nintendo Direct presentations have taken place in the month of June, and it’s possible that could be the case again this year. Those presentations often provide a look at games coming in the second half of the year, while offering some teases for titles arriving beyond the holiday season. It’s even possible that DLC for games like Mario Tennis Fever could be announced, but fans will have to wait to see what Nintendo has in store.
