Marvel Is Desperate To Make Avengers: Doomsday The Biggest Event Of 2026

Does MrBeast really not have money in his bank account? Does Marvel really expect fans to watch a countdown timer for like a whole damn year? And how many more trailers and pre-release videos do we need for Capcom’s next big Resident Evil game? It’s the latest edition of Morning Checkpoint, Kotaku‘s daily roundup of gaming news, rumors, and culture.

Somehow, my friend group has fallen into a Yu-Gi-Oh Master Duel hole on PlayStation, and none of us can escape. Every night I hop online, I see at least one or two friends playing it. The amount of money some folks have spent in recent weeks on new decks is embarrassing. We all grew up playing the OG card game, so it’s not surprising we are having a good time. But how long can this last? At the moment, I don’t see an end in sight, but that’s okay because my Skull Servant deck is still hungry for more big wins.

Marvel launches an 11-month countdown stream to Avengers: Doomsday

Following the release of the latest Avengers: Doomsday teaser involving The Thing and Shuri, Marvel has activated a countdown stream. However, the countdown is 11 months long and stops when the new Avengers sequel arrives in theaters. I can’t imagine Marvel actually keeps this thing up for 11 months. But also, now the company can use it to tease other things endlessly via random noises or lights, forcing fans and entertainment journalists to watch every damn tick.

MrBeast’s YouTube channel can’t buy him McDonalds

The online video star said he’s equity rich but cash poor in a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal. In fact he’s grinding so hard he actually has “negative money” in his bank account. What happens when a million haters compete for $500,000 to see who can pull out the tiniest violin? It’s not the first time MrBeast has seemed slightly regretful of his YouTube success.

“No one ever believes anything I say because they’re like, ‘you’re a billionaire.’ I’m like, that’s net worth. Actually, I have negative money right now,” he said (via Dexerto). “I’m borrowing money, that’s how little money I have. Technically, everyone watching this video has more money than me in their bank account if you subtract the equity value of my company, which doesn’t buy me McDonald’s in the morning or whatever.”

Capcom announces a new Resident Evil Showcase for later this week

At this point, I feel Capcom has revealed plenty of information about the next Resident Evil game, Requiem, ahead of its February launch. But apparently, it still has more to share as the publisher announced a new Resident Evil Showcase that will go live on January 15. There are also rumors circulating that Capcom might have a surprise announcement or extra game to reveal, but for now, that’s just internet speculation.

The Elder Scrolls Online is getting way cheaper to play

The long-running MMORPG announced last week that it’s overhauling how new expansions work. Instead of one big paid chapter added per year, the game will see smaller, seasonal updates that come free alongside premium battle passes. These changes will arrive later in the spring with “Season 0: Dawn and Dusk” on April 2, but lots of tweaks can already be tried on the game’s test server right now.
