During the recent alpha test, a Marvel Rivals datamine seemingly discovers information on potential plans to bring the hero shooter to consoles like Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. It was a big weekend for the recently announced Marvel Rivals, as a closed technical test gave fans their first taste of NetEase’s take on what a Marvel specific Overwatch looks like. The quick look let players check out a handful of modes and maps, as well as a variety of characters including Spider-Man, Hulk, and Iron Man.
While players have begun testing the game, others have begun to explore some of the other elements of Marvel Rivals, specifically digging into the game files. In fact, a massive Marvel Rivals leak recently revealed 20 new characters and five unrevealed maps. Overall, the 20 additional characters pushes the roster to 39, which seems unlikely to be available at launch considering how long it took for other similar games like Overwatch 2 to have a roster that size. In addition to content, dataminers also seemingly discovered news pertaining to the game’s release and which platforms fans can play the game on.

Marvel Rivals is Borrowing One of Marvel’s Midnight Suns’ Best Tricks
Marvel’s Midnight Suns is one of the most criminally overlooked games in years, and Marvel Rivals is borrowing one of its best marketing tricks.
During the Alpha Test for Marvel Rivals, dataminers scoured the files in an effort to discover potential unannounced details about the game. Twitter user GMatrixGames noticed in the alpha code that a section called “TargetPlatforms” listed both the Xbox Series X and PS5, two platforms which have not yet been confirmed by developer NetEase. In addition, there is code for both the Microsoft and PlayStation Store to allow players to purchase in-game currency, which shouldn’t be too surprising considering the online nature of Marvel Rivals.
More Potential Clues that Marvel Rivals is Going Multiplatform
While Marvel Rival‘s reveal initially confirmed PC only, NetEase has indicated that it is actively exploring potential releases on other platforms. While nothing is official yet, another dataminer named Miller Ross, a user who has a solid track record of confirming details for games like Marvel’s Avengers, Suicide Squad, and more. Responding to GMatrixGames, Ross added new context that crossplay infrastructure is also present in the code, leading to the belief that an announcement is likely imminent, potentially during one of the many upcoming showcases like Summer Games Fest in June.
While the additional platforms will certainly please fans if proven true, the hero shooter found itself in a bit of hot water over the weekend. During the Closed Alpha, a “non-disparagement” clause in the contract prohibited players from making fun of or being negative of the game and its material. Even comments comparing Marvel Rivals to other games were grounds for contract termination. After being exposed online, Marvel Rivals issued a statement apologizing and promising to revise the conditions of the contract in order to foster more discussion and using suggestions and criticisms alike to improve the game.
