Marvel Rivals Players Are Leaving Ranked Matches Mid-Game With No Penalty

Marvel Rivals Players Are Leaving Ranked Matches Mid-Game With No Penalty

A reported Marvel Rivals exploit allegedly lets players manipulate the game’s anti-cheat system to cancel losing Competitive matches without receiving the usual abandonment penalties. Despite the new exploit, NetEase has been steadily expanding multiplayer protections in Marvel Rivals over the past year, with ban waves issued earlier in 2026.

Under Marvel Rivals‘ standard Competitive rules, disconnecting from a match can result in ranking point deductions and temporary matchmaking bans to deter players from leaving mid-game. Repeat offenses can escalate from a 15-minute Competitive ban to up to 20 hours, with point penalties also increasing depending on the violation. NetEase additionally compensates teammates in certain situations when another player disconnects, while its newer Anti-Cheat Rank Compensation System refunds points lost against verified cheaters. However, this newly reported exploit appears to turn one of the game’s match-protection systems against legitimate players instead.

Marvel Rivals Making Big Change in Response to Players Throwing Matches

Marvel Rivals developer NetEase Games reveals new countermeasures in its ongoing crackdown against players who throw ranked matches.

Marvel Rivals Players Find Way to Quit Ranked Games Without Taking the Loss

Marvel Rivals streamer LytePk raised awareness of the ongoing problem on Twitter, claiming players are intentionally manipulating configuration files during losing matches in a way that triggers the game’s cheat detection and cancels the entire match. LytePk also claims that these instances of players triggering the Anti-Cheat and canceling a match even happened five times during one stream. A separate clip circulating on Twitter by user Fumiata appears to show a player temporarily leaving a heavily one-sided match before it is subsequently canceled, much like what the streamer is said to have experienced. The reports do not suggest that simply quitting a Marvel Rivals Competitive match avoids punishment; the alleged loophole specifically involves manipulating the game’s detection systems.

This new exploit, sometimes referred to by players as “config dodging,” has generated plenty of frustration because it can erase a legitimate team’s apparent victory after time has already been invested in the match. That concern becomes especially significant toward the upper end of Marvel Rivals’ Ranked ladder, where individual results can have an outsized effect on standings. Players on social media have called on NetEase to address the loophole, but the game’s August 13 patch notes don’t mention a specific fix for match cancellations caused by config manipulation.

Configuration files have already been somewhat of a complicated subject within the Marvel Rivals PC community. Some players have historically modified config files for performance or optimization purposes, while NetEase explicitly prohibits unauthorized modifications to client configuration files, including changes to graphics-related “.ini” files that alter how the game is displayed. The studio has since taken a much harsher stance on unauthorized client manipulation, warning players against cheats, scripts, game modifiers, and illicit third-party tools. Accounts verified to be using relevant cheats or tampering can receive permanent bans, with device and IP restrictions possible for severe or repeated violations. That policy gives the developer a clear basis for acting against intentional Marvel Rivals cheating if the reported exploit is verified.

Despite those considerations, simply eliminating match cancellation altogether may not be the best answer. The system exists partly to protect innocent players from early disconnects, throwers, and verified cheating, and NetEase has specifically expanded those protections over time to improve the competitive experience. The challenge now is distinguishing legitimate failures from deliberate client manipulation to erase a bad match in order to maintain competitive integrity. If config dodging becomes even more widespread, closing that loophole could quickly become one of the more important Marvel Rivals fixes NetEase has to make.
