Insomniac Games is answering fans who are concerned that Marvel’s Wolverine could ship a physical edition without an actual disc, something that GTA 6 is poised to do at launch. As part of a stacked slate of games set to launch prior to Grand Theft Auto 6 in November, Marvel’s Wolverine has left fans impressed thanks to a recent gameplay reveal, showcasing that Insomniac isn’t afraid to tap into Logan’s violent brutality.
Despite some initial leaks due to Insomniac Games getting hacked, the excitement and momentum that the game has achieved hasn’t slowed at all. Sony’s June State of Play really blew the door wide open with new information, showing Wolverine teaming up with Jean Grey as the duo took on a cybernetically enhanced group known as the Reapers. The long-awaited pre-orders also finally opened alongside new details for the various editions that players can purchase, though a new question has been the focal point for many in regards to the physical edition of the game.

Will Marvel’s Wolverine Physical Edition Have a Disc?
The highly anticipated GTA 6 dropped tons of new information in celebration of pre-orders going live, though fans were shocked to learn that the game won’t have a physical disc included at launch, just a code to download the game. Naturally, this set off concerns among fans about whether this could become a trend for other games launching later this year, especially companies looking to potentially save on manufacturing costs. Thankfully, Insomniac Games is attempting to get out ahead of these questions and address potential concerns from its fanbase.

One user in particular straight up asked the official Insomniac Games social media team if Marvel’s Wolverine would have an actual disc or just a code within the box. Responding to the user, Insomniac Games confirmed that all physical editions of Marvel’s Wolverine will have a disc inside the box. While there were some jokes levied at the comment, there was a sense of relief for many, including those who prefer to physically own the game. However, there were still a few skeptical about the single-player experience, still requiring players to connect online or downloading a mandatory update in order to play.
Regardless, the question surrounding physical editions continues to be a major discussion point for fans, one that is now only getting louder thanks to Rockstar’s decision to not include one with GTA 6. While a new rumor has seemingly teased that GTA 6 physical discs could actually be released in December, the shock of a physical edition only launching with a download code has left gaming fans concerned that this could spark a new trend going forward.

To be honest, fans may have a right to be concerned as it was confirmed earlier this year that physical game sales hit a record low in 2025 despite still selling $1.5 billion. Based on the decline, it’s possible some publishers may just opt to cut out those costs completely. In addition, there have been plenty of other examples of physical editions either being harder to find due to limited stock or special editions only containing a download code. In fact, Nintendo faced plenty of criticism and controversy over some of its Switch 2 Editions containing a download code instead of an actual game card like Skyrim and Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition.
