Outside some overblown nitpicks about character models and auto-repairing suits, there’s been nothing but positivity about Insomniac’s brutal Wolverine game. However, despite all the hype, the latest trailer for Marvel’s Wolverine is being hijacked by angry PlayStation fans.
To be clear, fans have not taken issue with the trailer itself; sure, some aren’t thrilled about the Jean Grey romance (and subsequent love triangle with Cyclops) being adapted within Insomniac’s universe, but most love the CGI trailer for the game. It nails Logan’s personality, raises intrigue about Sabretooth’s role since he’s shown helping Wolverine, and confirms Lady Deathstrike will be one of the many villains featured in the game. The action throughout is also gorgeous, with the trailer doing its job of hyping up the September 15 launch. However, if one were to look at the comments, they’d see nothing but negativity.
Marvel’s Wolverine is an Easy Target for Those Protesting PlayStation’s Disc Decision
While one need only take a quick glance at the YouTube comment section or social media threads tied to the trailer to see the outrage themselves, websites like Eurogamer have also picked up on the sheer number of gamers taking shots at Sony instead of focusing on what the trailer shows. Some commenters simply make jokes about Sony deciding to cut support for physical games come 2028, with examples including the meme of Wolverine holding a photo, except this time it’s a picture of PlayStation’s classic “sharing games” ad for the PS4. Others talk about Logan’s cherished photo in the trailer showing the importance of physical media, and even more discuss their excitement to own a disc version of the game.
As one of the next big first party releases from PlayStation, it’s no surprise that Marvel’s Wolverine is falling victim to these player protests. However, it’s hardly the only game that’s being impacted by Sony’s decision. Every social media post and trailer posted on official PlayStation accounts is being bombarded with jokes and negative comments. Whether its Marvel Tokon fans drawing attention to Ghost Rider’s “physical” car, or Where Winds Meet being dubbed “Where Discs Meet” by angry fans, players are refusing to let up on Sony and the games it’s advertising.
As disappointed as gamers are — not to mention other developers across the industry — it does seem unlikely for Sony to change its stance on physical copies at this point. PlayStation’s largest disc-making factory is already changing course from making games to micro optics, so if Sony were to cave and change course, it would surely cost the company a good deal of money to find a new production site. As unpopular as it is for physical collectors and fans of game preservation, a digital future for PlayStation seems locked in. That doesn’t mean comments like these will stop anytime soon, though, as it’s equally likely that this PR nightmare for Sony continues for several more weeks before gamers turn their anger to something else.

Hopefully, players choose to prove their point by buying disc versions of Marvel’s Wolverine instead of avoiding the game entirely. It’s unfortunate that Insomniac Games is being caught in the crossfire following its publisher’s decision, as the studio has already endured a lot following the infamous company-wide leak a few years ago.
