Microsoft, in all its wisdom, has decided to start harassing its Microsoft 365 subscribers, who already pay roughly $130 a year for either the Microsoft 365 Personal or Microsoft 365 Family plan subscriptions, with intrusive adverts that beg them to “supercharge” their “AI experience.”
This news comes via Neowin, which looked into the sudden barrage of AI Copilot slop adverts that had infested its own Microsoft 365 account after spotting several users on the Microsoft Feedback portal complaining about exactly the same thing.
The adverts in question come in many forms, but the main one that’s upsetting subscribers is the huge “Supercharge your AI experience” ad that pops up when you open up a document. The advert hits you with a “limited-time offer” that will grant you access to Microsoft 365 Premium’s extra “AI usage and exclusive Copilot features.”

That’s not all though, as there’s an “Upgrade your plan” button that eternally sits at the top right of your document and cannot be closed—and oh boy, people are understandably very, very pissed about this, especially considering that one of the selling points of paying for a Microsoft 365 account is that users are granted an “ad-free” email experience.
Based on the chatter I’ve seen online about this, the ads have been getting rolled out to Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscribers since the end of April. As one user suggests, the ads seem to reset after a week or two as well, which means that even if you get rid of them, they’ll keep coming back. Once again, it’s important to note that this is a service that Microsoft 365 Family subscribers are paying roughly $130 a year for.
But, you know, it’s also important that we think of the little guy here. Microsoft is having a rough time at the moment, because it’s invested hundreds of billions of dollars into building AI data centers, which are obviously not turning any kind of profit. It’s one of the many reasons that they had to release a new 8GB budget version of their Surface Laptop line, which apparently runs like crap, as Microsoft’s investments into the AI slop machine have helped drive up the price of RAM.
Hence why Microsoft is likely pushing its Copilot AI features so hard, as its investors need to see some kind of payoff for all of the billions it’s invested so far. On the plus side, you can now hook up your $1,200 LG monitor, which will push McAfee adverts to your computer thanks to an automatic update, to your crappy $1,000 Surface Laptop, and get barraged with two adverts at once while you use the Microsoft 365 service you pay $130 a year for.
