Microsoft’s Copilot Discord Locked After ‘Microslop’ Message Flood

Microsoft’s Copilot Discord Locked After ‘Microslop’ Message Flood

Microsoft’s official Copilot Discord server has been locked down, and its message history has reportedly been wiped, following an influx of messages using the term “Microslop.” Exactly what instigated the initial incursion of anti-Copilot messages in the server is unclear, but users began flooding the Discord with variations of Microslop once news of the term being added to its list of “inappropriate” phrases came to light.

As spotted by Windows Latest, the word Microslop was banned on the Copilot Discord sometime around March 1st. Of course, Windows’ Latest’s initial post on X detailing this led to a newly bolstered stream of variations on the phrase. In a bid to get around Discord’s filtering system, users found that they could successfully circumvent it by posting variations such as “microsl0p.”

PC Gamer’s Andy Edser decided to poke around in the server to see how things had developed, and found that users were debating using the phrase “Sloppysoft” to get around the filtering system instead. I tried to join the server so I could do the same, only to find that the Copilot server has since been locked, and will display the message “Invites are currently paused for this server” when attempting to join it.

While there appears to be no specific reason for the invasion, the initial wave was likely inspired by this popular February 28 post on X from VTuber Qyu, criticizing a “FUCKING DUMABSS BRAINDEAD SUIT at Microslop” for the design of the Windows Taskbar. However, animosity has been brewing regarding Microsoft’s “AI companion” for quite some time.

Windows users aren’t thrilled about Copilot’s “intrusive” integration with several of Microsoft’s products. This issue has been exacerbated by how annoying it is to completely eradicate Copilot from Windows systems, as doing so (the standard way) requires you to individually disable Copilot’s functionality in the settings of multiple different apps.

Update; 3/2/2026, 3:19 p.m. ET: A spokesperson for Microsoft contacted Kotaku to explain that banning the term “Microslop” was only a temporary measure, which was put in place to combat a “spam campaign.”

Here’s the full statement: “The Copilot Discord channel has recently been targeted by spammers attempting to disrupt and overwhelm the space with harmful content not related to Copilot. Initially, this spam consisted of walls of text, so we added temporary filters for select terms to slow this activity. We have since made the decision to temporarily lock down the server while we work to implement stronger safeguards to protect users from this harmful spam and help ensure the server remains a safe, usable space for the community.”
