A Minecraft player has discovered that Iron Trapdoors can be used as fans, opening the door for loads of industrial build opportunities. In most cases, players use Minecraft Trapdoors to access lower levels of their Seed, but this may provide them with more uses for the item.
Trapdoors have been part of Minecraft since the beginning, with new materials introduced to the game adding more types of Trapdoors. Since launch, Acacia, Cherry, Copper, Dark Oak, and more blocks that can be turned into Trapdoors have been introduced. Similar to metal-based doors, the Trapdoors require a Redstone signal. This is usually provided by a nearby switch that can activate the Trapdoor to allow players through. Gamers don’t have to make their own Iron Trapdoors if they bring a Pickaxe to a Minecraft Ancient City where they naturally generate. One player has discovered a use for Iron Trapdoors that could open the door to tons of new creations.

Minecraft Releases Another Pre-Release Patch Ahead of Update 1.21 Launch
Mojang is pushing out a second pre-patch release for Minecraft in preparation for the Tricky Trials update later this month.
Reddit user Kenny744 recently shared a video highlighting a mechanism that turns four Iron Trapdoors into a spinning fan blade. The clip begins with the player approaching an open box composed of 20 Blocks of Iron in a four-by-four formation. The gamer places two Iron Trapdoors next to each other in the box before breaking the first one they added, and putting one above the remaining item. They then put an Iron Trapdoor in the original spot and immediately placed another on top. The gamer then steps away from their Minecraft Iron contraption to activate a Redstone network by clicking on a Jukebox, which begins spinning the four Trapdoors in a clockwise direction.
How Was This Iron and Redstone Build Made?
After showing how the makeshift fan looks when it’s in motion, Kenny744 floats above their contraption, which indicates that it was made in Minecraft Creative mode. The full build uses Blocks of Iron, Redstone Circuits, a Jukebox, and Observers. A Redstone network connects the back of the build to the front area containing the Trapdoors, with circuits in the middle and on either side. Seven Observer Blocks can be seen from above, and the build is similarly seven blocks long. The Redstone mechanism rapidly activates one side of the Iron Trapdoors and then the other. The speed at which this Redstone build can do this results in the Trapdoors spinning rapidly.
Given that Kenny744’s creation may be the first example of a spinning fan, this is an impressive engineering feat. Multiple build types could utilize fans, most notably Minecraft sci-fi concepts. Given that Redstone could be applied similarly to other types of Trapdoors, players may implement different colored fans into their work.
