Modern Warfare 4 Finally Makes One of the Most Highly Requested Player Changes

Activision reveals a major change coming to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 with how its Double XP Tokens work, while also letting players carry them forward from the previous game. As the release date for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is rapidly approaching, Activision has been more forthcoming with additional details, including one major change that is certainly to please fans.

Despite the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launch date now less than a month away, Activision seems to have plenty more to say about the game. Fans have already learned plenty regarding the included game modes, while also being able to experience a number of them thanks to a couple of Modern Warfare 4 beta tests. Infinity Ward is even planning to reveal more details on the still mysterious Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4‘s DMZ, a refreshed take on the franchise’s previous attempt at an extraction-style game mode. For the time being, Activision also confirmed a highly requested change is finally happening.

Modern Warfare 4 Double XP Tokens Now Use In-Game Time

Double XP Tokens in Call of Duty have been around for a long time, though fans have always had a problem with how they’ve worked. When activated, the tokens gave players double experience bonuses, but the drawback is that they’re run on real world time. For example, a 30-minute Double XP Token would continue to count down for 30 actual minutes. Whether the player was in a match or not, there was no way to pause or stop it. Ultimately, this meant that players wouldn’t be able to take advantage of the full time being in lobbies, loading screens, and between matches.

Naturally, it has always been a point of contention, one that Activision wasn’t seemingly interested in addressing. However, with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the studio is finally adjusting how these tokens work. Inside the new game, Double XP Tokens will finally run on in-game time, which means they’ll only count down when players are in a match instead of 30 actual minutes. Not only that, Activision also confirmed that existing Double XP Tokens earned in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will carry forward and still be usable in Modern Warfare 4. Players won’t need to feel pressured to use them over the next few weeks before the launch of the new game.
