Monster Hunter Wilds Confirms Performance Optimization Update Release

Capcom announces an upcoming patch for Monster Hunter Wilds, finally addressing the game’s ongoing performance and stability issues, including Steam-specific options as well. While Monster Hunter Wilds rocketed out to a big launch early in 2025, the game has continued to be heavily criticized for its poor optimization, especially on PC. It may have taken more time than expected, but hope finally appears to be on the horizon for players, especially those on PC.

Although Monster Hunter Wilds became Capcom’s fastest-selling title to date at launch, it ultimately didn’t meet the company’s sales expectations or quite reach the heights of one of its predecessors in Monster Hunter World. While Wilds continues the franchise’s legacy of crossover content with Capcom and third-party franchises, including Square Enix’s Final Fantasy, the experience has largely been marred by ongoing technical and performance issues, many of which have continued to be a problem beyond the 4 title updates Capcom has already released to this point. However, an upcoming patch seems to take aim at finally resolving these issues for players.

Monster Hunter Wilds’ Latest Leak Could Be a Blessing—or a Curse

The latest leaks for Monster Hunter Wilds are exciting at first glance, but history is an excellent teacher and advises caution.

Monster Hunter Wilds Reveals Performance Patch Release Dates

  • Steam Specific Update: January 27, 6pm PST / January 28, 2am GMT
  • All Platforms Update: February 18, 2026

While many fans agree that Monster Hunter Wilds has some of the best combat the series has seen, with a greater emphasis on the game’s narrative elements, player reviews have continued to hover around ‘Mixed’ on marketplaces like Steam due to various stability and performance problems that hamper the experience. These issues have been previously acknowledged by Monster Hunter Wilds‘ director, Yuya Tokuda, who confirmed additional updates would continue to be released in an effort to address these concerns.

Despite Title Update 4 being a massive patch for Monster Hunter Wilds, Capcom wasn’t finished with addressing the game’s overall performance issues. In a new post online, the studio confirmed that it is planning to release Patch Ver.1.040.03.01 to Steam players starting on January 27, 2026. The main focus of this patch will be to reduce processing load, while adding new optimization improvements. This includes things like improving the shader compilation process, reducing stuttering, VRAM usage enhancements, and much more. The update is part of Capcom’s previous outline it made back in December, revealing a short-term plan to improve stability and performance.

While the January update will be for PC players, Capcom also confirmed another patch planned for February, intended to improve the experience for players across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. Known as Ver. 1.041, the update is planned for a February 18 launch and will further enhance stability and performance, alongside additional improvements like adding “level-of-details” to polygon mesh on 3D models. More details will be shared closer to the patch’s release date.

The problems surrounding Monster Hunter Wilds’ performance issues have seemingly come to a head with its community, who have resorted to attempting to try and solve the problems themselves instead of waiting for Capcom. In fact, a breakthrough seems to have been made only recently, after one player discovered Monster Hunter Wilds performance was seemingly tied to a forced DLC check. After running tests across multiple different PCs, the result was the same. While running a mod that prevented Monster Hunter Wilds from checking for DLC, the game’s frame rate went from 20–25 to over 80, a huge performance boost. Players began theorizing that Monster Hunter Wilds may repeatedly inspect the files for any owned DLC, with the check seemingly requiring CPU bandwidth, directly resulting in a performance drop. If the player already has them installed, the checks are faster and less resource intensive, resulting in better performance and unintentionally making the experience better for those who spend money.
