Monster Hunter Wilds Is About To Get A Major Price Drop

Monster Hunter Wilds Is About To Get A Major Price Drop

Nearly 18 months since its launch, Monster Hunter Wilds is still normally priced at $70. Capcom says that’s about to change. Starting next month, the action-RPG is getting a price cut. How much exactly? We still don’t know. But the change happening ahead of the Ascendance expansion offers a clue.

“Hunters, we are streamlining the available options for new and returning hunters joining Monster Hunter Wilds,” Capcom announced on X on July 14. “We plan to discontinue sales of some of our existing bundle products and release new value bundle products.” The existing Deluxe Edition and cosmetic DLC pass will be going away, replaced by new bundles. The changes will go into effect on August 3.

Capcom

Revealed back at Summer Game Fest, Ascendance will take Monster Hunter players to the skies to explore floating ruins and fight Elder Dragons. So far, it only has a vague release window of “2027,” though many fans are hoping that means January or February, roughly two years after the base game launched. When the Iceborne expansion originally released for Monster Hunter World, Capcom priced it at $40 and cut the base game from $60 down to $20. It might be wishful thinking that Monster Hunter Wilds goes down to $30 this time around, but I could easily see it going down at least to $40 with the expansion priced the same and a combined package running $80. We’ll see!

In the meantime, anyone thinking of buying Monster Hunter Wilds should hold off until at least next month. An upcoming PlayStation sale will also probably see it get a decent price cut. A separate question fans have is how these price cuts and bundle changes will impact the game’s current microtransactions, which have rubbed many the wrong way. Even DLC passes haven’t included access to all of the paid add-ons. We’ll see if the new bundles make the game’s MTX any less confusing.
