New LEGO collaborations release all throughout the year, every year at this point, so it was hardly surprising when a crossover with Hello Kitty was confirmed by Brick Tap’s inside sources. However, beyond this set’s release in January 2027, there’s practically nothing to go off. Naturally, fans are sharing their hopes and dreams for the Sanrio bricks, not to mention their fears about Hello Kitty’s LEGO team-up ending up like the hugely divisive LEGO Pokemon sets. Despite having no official information to go off of, though, it’s possible to speculate about what the set (or sets) will entail.
There are two key reasons for this, the first being the existence of LEGO-like building sets with other companies like Jazwares. Through these BLDR sets, LEGO fans can get a general idea of the kind of Sanrio-themed builds they would be working on, with character specific shops accompanying minifgures of the most beloved critters. Additionally, though a very popular fan-made LEGO idea that got 10,000 supporters didn’t pass internal review at the company in 2022, the mockups do show how LEGO could approach its Sanrio content. With these two points in mind, it becomes much easier to imagine the ins and outs of this early 2027 crossover.
New Hello Kitty Release Confirmed for October 29
It’s a great time to be a Hello Kitty fan, as not only is there a big collab on the way, but a brand-new video game is coming at the end of October.
Hello Kitty’s BLDR Sets Could Be Used As a Prototype

Building block fans have already had some fairly high quality Sanrio sets to work on thanks to BLDR. Sure, BLDR isn’t quite as polished and certainly not as well-known as the LEGO brand, but Squishmallow maker Jazwares still did some fine work with its Hello Kitty sets. Pictured above, fans of the Sanrio brand could not only get individual minifigures to build, which are roughly the same size as LEGO minifigures, but also larger buildable characters that took hundreds of pieces to assemble. However, it’s the minifigure and building combos depicted in the images that feel the most like what one will be seeing from LEGO. The BLDR buildings included:
- A Badtz-Maru-themed Bowling Alley
- A Kerropi Bus Stop
- A Hello Kitty Dream Cafe
- A My Melody Music Shop
- A Kuromi Haunted House
- A Kerropi Mart
- A Tuxedo Sam Pizza Parlor
- A Hello Kitty and Friends Burger Mart
This is not to say that the LEGO Hello Kitty sets will copy these exact buildings and simply rehash Jazwares ideas; in fact, the opposite is likely. Instead, this lineup presents a general idea of what LEGO could be doing. One or two minifigures and a colorful building based on a specific character included in the set, with building sizes and piece counts varying between sets. Perhaps the characters that didn’t get a dedicated BLDR set could even be the focus. Cinnamoroll and Pompompurin are some of the most popular Sanrio characters, making them perfect candidates for the minifigure/themed building combo.
There’s even potential for the 2027 LEGO collab with Hello Kitty to feature the same buildings from the popular Island Adventure video game. Pompompurin’s ice cream shop, a fishing-themed set centered on Badtz-Maru, and a comedy stage for Hangyodon would all be fun homages to the classic cozy game. Regardless of whether new, original buildings are designed or iconic locations from the game are borrowed, this approach would surely prove popular, especially since the Sanrio minifigures could then be sold and collected separately.
Rejected LEGO Kitty Ideas Could Paint an Even Clearer Picture With Its Minifigure Designs
It’s no secret that even denied LEGO set ideas can be used to gauge interest in collabs that one day become official, and perhaps that’s what happened with the 50-year anniversary set created by Bulldoozer in 2022. The cafe, Kerropi mini-mart, and bowling alley went on to become BLDR sets, suggesting that Bulldoozer may have worked with Jazwares to bring their ideas to life. Since this fan-made mock-up uses actual minifigure proportions, it could be giving LEGO fans a very accurate idea of what the official Hello Kitty figures will look like. While another mock-up from Minibrick41587 shows what a large-scale Hello Kitty build could look like, after Pokemon, it’s safe to assume that the safer approach would be best. Obviously, this is all just theorizing and guess work, but with fan designs and non-LEGO building sets sharing the same style, the official collab following in their footsteps seems likely.
