Fans have speculated for years about whether Uncharted 5 will ever happen. According to a new report by MP1st, Naughty Dog is indeed planning to return to its hit artifact-hunting adventure series as soon as it’s finished with Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet.
The upcoming Uncharted game reportedly won’t be a remake but a new entry in the series. Naughty Dog veteran Shaun Escayag, who returned to the studio in 2021 after working on Marvel’s Avengers at Crystal Dynamics, is apparently leading the project. Series protagonist Nathan Drake will also reportedly return, though it’s unclear in what capacity. Plus it sounds early enough in the concept phase that everything could still be subject to change.
Lending additional credence to the report is mystery industry leaker NateTheHate. Yesterday he posted that Escayag wasn’t working on any of the Last of Us projects recently teased by the studio, and today he confirmed that he understood him to be working on a new Uncharted game.
Add to all of this the fact that Escayag previously posted a picture of an old canon at Fort George in Trinidad and Tobago on his Instagram earlier this year and you have a very convincing case for the return of Uncharted in the near future. Though given the pace at which Naughty Dog hasn’t been releasing games during the PlayStation 5 console generation, who knows when we’ll ever see it.
The studio promised a full reveal of Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet in 2027. The best fans might hope for is a new Uncharted game at some point in the first half of the PS6 lifecycle.
