Netflix Losing By Far Its Most Popular Game Today, Plus 2 Award-Winning Titles

By far the most popular game on Netflix, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, is leaving the service later today, December 11. Netflix is also losing two other award-winning titles as part of its next catalog rotation.

Before today, Netflix’s ever-changing game library had already shrunk three times this month. Civilization 6 and Scriptic were the first to leave, on December 4 and 7, respectively. Seven more titles were pulled on December 8.

The Netflix Acquisition Will Make it the Gaming Giant It’s Struggled to Become For Years

After years of trial and error, Netflix’s $72 billion purchase of Warner Bros. is fast-tracking the company into the upper tier of the gaming world.

GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition Leaving Netflix After 2 Immense Years

Another three games are now scheduled to follow later today, December 11, with Netflix being set to lose GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, Kentucky Route Zero, and Twelve Minutes. Of those, the remastered version of Rockstar’s 2004 classic appears to be the biggest loss in terms of user engagement. According to AppMagic, GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition had been downloaded 57.4 million times by Netflix users as of November 2025, making it by far the most popular title ever released on the service. For comparison, Netflix’s entire game catalog has accumulated just under 400 million lifetime downloads, with San Andreas alone thus accounting for roughly one in seven, as per the same source.

The other two December 11 departures mark notable losses for Netflix’s game catalog in terms of critical acclaim. Kentucky Route Zero is one of the highest-rated point-and-click adventures of 2020, having received widespread praise for its noir-inspired visuals, intoxicating atmosphere, and memorable writing, among other qualities. Described as an interactive book about an antique shop truck driver lost on a mysterious highway, Kentucky Route Zero won the 2021 BAFTA Games Award in the Original Property category, in addition to being nominated for a handful of other high-profile accolades.

Also leaving Netflix on December 11 is the interactive thriller Twelve Minutes. The top-down game follows a man trapped in a repeating 12-minute time loop inside a small apartment he shares with his wife. A quiet evening at home is disrupted when a man claiming to be a police officer forces his way in, accuses the wife of murdering her father and stealing a valuable pocket watch, then kills the husband, triggering a reset of the loop to just before the doorbell rings. Twelve Minutes received plaudits for its meaningful choices, distinctive premise, and voice acting by a star-studded cast consisting of Daisy Ridley, Willem Dafoe, and James McAvoy. It won the 2019 Clio Award and was nominated for ten others.

GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition is leaving the service one year after the GTA 3 and Vice City remasters were removed from Netflix. All three originally joined the platform on the same day in December 2023. While Netflix never officially explained why San Andreas ended up having a longer stint, AppMagic’s download estimates suggest the decision was likely driven by user engagement. Following today’s removals, no GTA games will remain on the service. However, another Rockstar classic, Red Dead Redemption, was just added to Netflix on December 2. Based on recent catalog update patterns, subscribers can expect the open-world Wild West game to stay on the service for at least one year, i.e., until late 2026.

As of December 2025, Netflix’s game library includes approximately 100 titles. Since launching in 2021, the service has averaged around three new games per month. However, its releases tend to come in larger batches, and while months without new additions are not the norm, they are not uncommon either. Based on this pattern, the next batch of Netflix games may not arrive until late Q1 2026.
