A new 2D Metroid game has seemingly been leaked online for Nintendo Switch 2. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond was released in 2025, but Nintendo Switch 2 has yet to receive its own 2D game in the series. Metroid Dread came out in 2021 on the original Switch, so fans have been waiting nearly five years to see another entry in the franchise that goes back to its 2D roots.

A classification rating from Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security system has seemingly leaked a new game from Nintendo called “Metroid Ravenous.” While the rating does not offer fans much to go on, many are speculating that this is the next 2D entry in the series. It’s possible this could be another collaboration with the developer of Metroid Dread, but MercurySteam just went through layoffs this year. The studio indicated that it was between production cycles of games, which would be a little unusual if it were in the middle of making a new Metroid game with Nintendo.
