New App is Basically Letterboxd for Video Games

Tracking video game collection and completion can be a fun part of the hobby, and a new app has emerged to help players accomplish this task. Cartridge is to video games what Letterboxd is to movies, giving users a platform to rank, rate, and track the games they’ve played. The app is free to use and available on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

While platforms like Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox let players view achievements for games they’ve completed, some gamers want alltheir gaming history in one place. This is where Cartridge seems like the perfect companion app for gamers and game collectors to add to their mobile device. Cartridge already has a 3.8-star rating on Google Play and a 4.1-star rating on the Apple App Store, with users praising its utility in tracking their game collections.

PS5 Has 13 Big Games Releasing in October 2026

PlayStation 5 gamers should mark their calendars for all the big new games coming to the platform in October 2026.

Developer JogWheel Digital has created the video game equivalent of Letterboxd in the new app Cartridge. An app like Letterboxd is popular among movie fans for keeping track of the films they’ve seen, allowing them to review, rate, and even create lists based on their own chosen categories. Now, Cartridge is offering a similar experience for video games that includes features like:

  • Track games as Finished, Want to Play, Playing, Dropped, or Backlogged
  • Logs games from all of your consoles: PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, PC, and More
  • Rate and review completed games
  • Build custom lists like “Best of the Year,” “Guilty Pleasures,” and “Games that Made Me Cry”
  • Find friends through contact sync
  • Discover new games based on what your friends like

With the numerous games releasing throughout the rest of 2026 and into 2027, an ever-growing backlog seems like an inevitability. Cartridge might be a great option for gamers who are seeing their backlogs grow and want a way to organize them into more manageable groups as they work to clear through backlogged games. Game Awards season is also fast approaching as 2026 starts to wind down, so Cartridge may also be perfect for users to start ranking their best games of the year before the GOTY 2026 is officially crowned in December.

Like Letterboxd, there is also a social aspect to Cartridge that lets users check out what their friends have been playing and see how their ratings compare. Custom lists created in Cartridge can also be shared with other users so they can see recommendations and read an individual’s personal journey with an RPG like Baldur’s Gate 3 or hear their struggles with a tough soulslike. There is also a page for trending games within the community, so users can stay up to date with what games are popular at any given moment.

Cartridge also boasts over 400K titles within its system, so it’s likely that users will be able to find that underrated indie game gem they want to rave to others about within the app. Individual consoles or other gaming platforms may have their own game completion trackers and friends lists, but Cartridge can sync with accounts across platforms, giving users access to their full gaming library from PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo, PC, and more, all in one place. As gaming becomes more decentralized, having an app like Cartridge handy should make collecting and tracking personal gaming history much smoother.
