New Co-Op PS5 Game Is Like ARC Raiders Meets Call of Duty in Death Stranding

A brand-new game on the PlayStation 5 called Active Matter could be the title that brings together fans of ARC Raiders, Call of Duty, and Death Stranding on one server. Active Matter has been dubbed an intriguing combination of these famous IPs for several reasons, not the least of which is its visuals. PlayStation 5 users looking to play Active Matter won’t have to wait long, as the game will be released in September 2026.

Active Matter is backed by publisher Gaijin Network Ltd, the same company behind successful Steam releases like War Thunder and Enlisted, which may explain the game’s high-end visuals. On that subject, Active Matter‘s pre-release gameplay trailers make it look like a solid competitor to upcoming AAA first-person shooter games.

8.3/10 Open World FPS Game Officially Coming to PS5

A brand-new first-person shooter with massive open-world maps that recently received very positive reviews is set to join the PlayStation 5.

Active Matter Is Coming to PS5 on September 15

  • Genre: Extraction Shooter, FPS, Co-Op
  • Cross-platform Support: Optional cross-platform play between PC and consoles
  • Price: $29.99 USD (speculated based on the early-access version sold directly on the Gaijin Network Ltd website)

Developer Matter Team has confirmed that Active Matter will be released on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC via Steam on September 15. In terms of gameplay, it has the extraction shooter loop of ARC Raiders at its core, mixed with the first-person shooter style of Call of Duty. What makes Active Matter similar to Death Stranding, however, is its sci-fi universe and story, which revolve around a shattered universe and colliding timelines that have created hostile anomalies.

In Active Matter, players are looking for the namesake substance as well as valuable loot inside “unstable zones.” These zones are infested with monstrous creatures that look like BTs from the Death Stranding franchise. The substance itself could be compared to Chiralium from Kojima’s game because, according to Active Matter‘s lore, it’s a substance that “bends time and space.” Like Death Stranding‘s Chiralium, it also appears to affect gravity, interconnecting dimensions and allowing players to walk on walls and ceilings, similar to the movie Inception.

PvPvE and Realistic Tactical Gunplay

Active Matter has dedicated PvP and PvE modes, while some specific parts of the game focus on PvPvE combat similar to ARC Raiders‘ gameplay. The developer has decided to use real-life-inspired artillery and firearms, which is also one of the biggest reasons the game now has Call of Duty vibes. There are also unlockable operators that look like something straight out of a Black Ops or Modern Warfare game. However, the contrast between Active Matter‘s realistic elements and its Death Stranding-esque sci-fi apocalyptic setting has become one of its main selling points.

According to SteamDB data, Active Matter has already become one of the top 70 most-wishlisted games on Steam. While there is no reliable source to gauge player anticipation for the game on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, the attention it has received on Valve’s storefront could be seen as a sign that it will also be in the spotlight on consoles as well.
