New Co-Op Puzzle Game on Steam Makes Playing With Friends Harder Than It Sounds

New Co-Op Puzzle Game on Steam Makes Playing With Friends Harder Than It Sounds

There’s hardly anything better than enjoying a nice co-op challenge with friends. In many titles of this genre, players have to follow each other around, always pay attention to what they are doing, and generally try to make decisions that benefit the entire team. This is certainly not as easy as it sounds, especially for those who are generally not very good team players, but seeing the same things your teammates are seeing definitely makes communication less complicated, which is something We Were Here Tomorrow doesn’t always allow.

When it comes to this aspect, We Were Here Tomorrow takes a slightly different approach to what most people are used to seeing in co-op games. As the latest installment of the series, the new title scheduled to release on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 on October 20, 2026, will put communication at the center of the experience. Instead of allowing players to constantly be side by side, the game will often separate them and feed them different chunks of information. That way, teamwork will be more complicated and more essential than ever.

Brand-New Steam Game Is a Co-Op Dungeon Crawler With Cooking

A unique survival metroidvania with co-op, cooking, and countless creepy crawlers officially launches on Steam at a modest price.

We Were Here Tomorrow Makes Communication More Important Than Individual Skill

In We Were Here Tomorrow, all puzzles are designed to give players different perspectives, so each person on the team will see something their partners can’t. This means that even those who usually excel at puzzles will only be able to discover part of the equation. That’s why, unlike in many other co-op games, having one very skilled individual on the team simply will not be enough to carry the other person through every challenge. Yes, individual skill still matters, because every player will still have to figure out their own part, but generally, piecing the information together is what matters most.

Moreover, players need to be good at explaining what they have seen or heard. For example, games like It Takes Two require players to work together mostly by combining their abilities, but although communication certainly helps, things mostly revolve around what each character can do. On the other hand, We Were Here Tomorrow relies heavily on informing your teammate of what you’ve seen properly while also being able to correctly interpret the information you are getting from your partners as well. This might come as a surprise to some, but not every person excels at communication. In any case, imagine how central this is to the game if Steam had to introduce an official system requirement that a working microphone is essential to playing the game.

Different Roles Could Give We Were Here Tomorrow More Replay Value

Of course, it would be quite boring to make everything revolve solely around communication. We Were Here Tomorrow gives players the opportunity to explore different roles and acquire their own high-tech tools. In other words, the way the teammates combine their tools is also essential to whether they overcome a challenge or not. And considering that the game is all about puzzles that challenge the established rules of time, gravity, and space, there will most certainly be some serious obstacles that people will have a lot of trouble overcoming alone.

We Were Here Tomorrow will be available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with crossplay support across all platforms.

This approach gives players another reason to work as a team. Additionally, having different roles will give players a good reason to replay the game as well. One might figure that they are terrible at communicating from one perspective, but great at it from another. By swapping roles, players could actually get a better understanding of the challenges their partner faced in previous playthroughs. Sure, some of the mystery will be gone, but there’s still a sense of novelty that comes with exploring new details.

We Were Here Tomorrow Could Put Friendships to the Test

Last, but not least, it seems like this approach has more to do with trust, friendship, and general communication skills than with simply solving puzzles, and while relying on yourself might come easy to most people, it’s trusting others that makes a difference in We Were Here Tomorrow. This may sound simple if you are playing with someone you know well, but things certainly look different when you just can’t verify everything yourself. And if things do not go as planned, some new frustrations might emerge in friendships that were previously nice and stable. Nevertheless, this is what could make the new title such a rewarding experience. Most of the time, achievements do feel better when they are shared.

It’s also important to mention that games such as Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes have already explored a similar approach. In this title, players have to defuse a bomb while others must explain how to do it by using a manual, not actually seeing the bomb themselves. It’s a great example of how something like giving instructions can become so central to winning and also turn into quite a stressful challenge. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes has mostly positive Steam reviews, which suggests that this type of approach has been quite successful in the past. Of course, whether We Were Here Tomorrow will manage to achieve the same success still remains to be seen, but generally it seems like it has a chance to prove that an unusual approach can be just as entertaining as traditional co-op gameplay.
