‘Tis the season for cozy games and Pokemon, it seems, with Pokemon Pokopia having just launched and other games like Stardew Valley continuing to increase in popularity, regardless of how many surface on a regular basis. The dream of using Pokemon for tasks other than battling, surfing, and flying has officially been realized by Game Freak and Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force, but that doesn’t mean players are without options elsewhere. In fact, an upcoming cozy creature collector on Steam looks like it could have everything Pokemon Pokopia has and potentially even more. There’s even an NPC named Uncle Gary in the game. Subtle.
That game is Collector’s Cove, a cozy farming adventure from indie developer VoodooDuck that takes many of the creature-friendly ideas players associate with Pokemon and combines them with the relaxing daily routines that made Stardew Valley such a phenomenon. Currently set to launch on multiple platforms, including Steam, on March 12, 2026, Collector’s Cove gives players a simple goal: grow crops, catch rare fish, catalog discoveries, and gradually become a legendary “Named Collector.”
Collector’s Cove Takes Farm Life to the Open Sea
Collector’s Cove essentially asks what would happen if cozy farming gameplay and creature companionship were combined into one experience. Tha game focuses heavily on exploration, collecting, and building a relationship with the player’s animal companion, all while maintaining that relaxed pace that comes with the cozy gaming genre. Unlike many creature-based games like Pokemon that focus on battles, Collector’s Cove revolves around nurturing a farm, discovering new islands, and slowing building up a collection of crops, fish, and discoveries across the open sea.

What makes Collector’s Cove immediately stand out among other cozy games is the concept of its floating farm. Rather than working a traditional plot of land in a fixed location, players cultivate crops on the deck of their boat as they sail across the ocean. This means the farm itself is constantly on the move, making the normal cozy life sim formula feel more like an adventure. The ship acts as both a home and a workspace, allowing players to expand their farm while simultaneously charting new waters.
Collector’s Cove’s Exploration-Driven Gameplay Is All About Collecting
And with that comes an exploration-driven gameplay structure that functions as the game’s namesake. Collector’s Cove is, after all, a game about collecting, and the ability players have to move their farm across the ocean plays into that. As they venture out into the world, players will happen upon multiple islands, each of which features its own collection of plants, fish, and resources. The more players explore, the more their Collector’s Compendium fills out, thereby encouraging even further exploration once an island is discovered.
The Collector’s Compendium itself is another mechanic that makes Collector’s Cove feel like Pokemon, even though it doesn’t involve capturing creatures. Instead of building a Pokedex, players work toward filling a collection log that keeps track of any rare crops, fish, and other discoveries they make during their journey. Completing pages of hte Compendium ultimately brings players closer to achieving the prestigious rank of Named Collector, effectively turning the act of collecting into the game’s main progression system.
The more players explore, the more their Collector’s Compendium fills out, thereby encouraging even further exploration once an island is discovered.
Then there’s the animal companion, which serves as both a travel partner and a central part of the overall experience. Rather than leaving animals confined to barns or pens like many farm life sims do, Collector’s Cove puts a creature companion right alongside the player throughout the entire adventure. The creature can also be customized with accessories, and the bond between it and the player grows over time as they explore together. In a way, that gives the game a personality that feels much closer to Pokemon‘s creature companionship than most farming games.
Collector’s Cove’s Combat-Free Gameplay Makes It Truly Cozy
Something else Collector’s Cove does to set itself apart is it removes combat from the picture entirely. Even cozy games like Stardew Valley have combat, despite not being entirely focused on it, but Collector’s Cove intentionally avoids it altogether. The world is presented as a peaceful environment where the player can focus entirely on farming, collecting, and exploration without worrying about any external threats, letting relaxation and discovery take full priority over challenge.
Of course, farming and exploration alone wouldn’t be enough to keep players invested for long, which is why crafting and customization also play a major role in Collector’s Cove. Materials gathered from the islands players discover can be used to craft tools and decorations, allowing them to personalize their boat the way they see fit. Over time, the ship transforms from a simple vessel into a fully customized floating home, giving players something more than a Pokedex-like collection log to work toward.
Fishing is another important part of Collector’s Cove‘s gameplay loop, as it should be in a game set almost entirely on the ocean.
Between cultivating crops on a traveling farm, discovering islands filled with new plants and resources, and steadily filling out the Collector’s Compendium, Collector’s Cove is clearly and fully leaning into the spirit of relaxation that cozy games like Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley do so well. For players who enjoy the companionship and discovery found in creature-focused games like Pokemon but would rather spend their time exploring and collecting than battling, Collector’s Cove may be the alternative they’ve been looking for when it arrives on March 12, 2026.
Collector’s Cove launches on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, as well as PS5 and Nintendo Switch on March 12, 2026.
