New Day One Xbox Game Pass Co-Op Game Officially Revealed

Xbox Game Pass is getting another exciting day one release with co-op roguelike Tears of Metal. Developed by studio Paper Cult, Tears of Metal adds to the growing list of indie titles that Xbox Game Pass has to offer gamers.

Tears of Metal was revealed at this year’s ID@Xbox event alongside a long list of exciting-looking indie titles. There have been some great indie games on Game Pass over the years, and ID@Xbox revealed that there is plenty more for subscribers to look forward to down the road. Other games, like Golf With Your Friends 2 and the once-PC-exclusive RV There Yet, were just a few of the big ID@Xbox announcements. Tears of Metal is one of the most intriguing of the bunch, though.

The Best Online Co-Op Games On Xbox Game Pass Right Now

Looking to team up with a few friends? Then check out the best online co-op games on Xbox Game Pass.

Tears of Metal is an action-packed medieval roguelike experience that is all about hacking and slashing one’s way to victory. The game follows a Scottish battalion that is fighting to reclaim their island. A mysterious event known as the Dragon Stone Meteor has introduced an invasion of “occupiers” to the island, and players have to deal with the oncoming enemy hordes. Tears of Metal releasing as a day one Game Pass game will hopefully get it in front of more users, as it was once expected to be a PC exclusive.

Confirmed Features for Tears of Metal

  • Unique combos and upgrades
  • Multiple heroes to choose from
  • Permanent skills acquired between runs
  • Settlement expansion
  • Unlockable characters, items, and cosmetics
  • 45 hand-crafted levels
  • Solo or co-op

Whether one is more of a solo fan or loves a solid co-op experience, Tears of Metal offers both. The game promises a large variety of upgrades that can create unique playthroughs and appeal to a variety of fighting styles. Tears of Metal adds to the list of roguelike games on Game Pass, with some of the most popular over the years being titles like Dead Cells and Slay the Spire.

Tears of Metal might also appeal to gamers who love medieval-inspired games. There have been some really great medieval titles to pop up in the last few years. Tears of Metal may not be a super in-depth game like Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 or a city-builder like Manor Lords, but its use of a medieval setting is unique. A Scottish war story revolving around a mysterious and powerful meteor is quite compelling. One of the most eye-catching aspects of Tears of Metal is its art direction. From the character and environment designs to the camera perspective, this action-filled roguelike definitely boasts its own special identity.

Right now, Tears of Metal doesn’t have an official release date set in stone. On the bright side, it is at least in line to launch sometime later this year. There are a lot of indie games coming out in 2026, so there is plenty of competition to contend with, but Tears of Metal‘s premise is outside-the-box enough to stand out in the crowd. Gamers may have to wait for Tears of Metal to lock down a release date, but it’s going to be an intriguing day one game to check out when it’s finally here.
