New Dungeons and Dragons Video Game Revealed Based on the Coolest Spellcasting Class

Wizards of the Coast’s Invoke Studios has officially revealed Warlock, a new third-person action adventure game inspired by the eponymous Dungeons and Dragons class. Players will wield Eldritch Blasts, Pact Weapons, and more in this Dungeons and Dragons video game, slated for release in 2027.

Invoke Studios was originally founded as Tuque Games by Jeff Hattem in 2012. In 2019, it was acquired by Hasbro, and was put towards developing D&D games in partnership with Wizards of the Coast, starting with Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance.

Dungeons and Dragons New Artificer Subclass Misses the Mark: ‘You can go anywhere, but you can’t do anything when you get there’

Dungeons and Dragons’ new Eberron: Forge of the Artificer book adds a new subclass for the titular class, but it doesn’t really stick the landing.

Warlock – New Dungeons and Dragons Action Adventure Game

Now, Invoke Studios is taking its second step into the world of Dungeons and Dragons. Warlock is a third-party action adventure RPG in which gamers take control of Kaatri, a master of martial and magic skills who makes a bargain with a dark entity to gain power. During its ominous reveal trailer from The Game Awards, Kaatri, played by Tricia Helfer, uses her sword and spells to vanquish skeletons, vampires, and even a beholder.

Though no gameplay has been revealed yet, Invoke Studios has revealed some basic information about Warlock. The action RPG will feature an open world, a deep narrative with branching paths, tactical and visceral combat, and tons of different abilities to learn. Kaatri can master skills with her Pact of the Blade weapon while also learning powerful and iconic Warlock spells from Dungeons and Dragons, seemingly including Eldritch Blast and Evard’s Black Tentacles.

Dungeons and Dragons References Seen in Warlock So Far

  • Play a Warlock, complete with a Pact Weapon and a mysterious Patron
  • Face enemies like skeletons, vampires, and beholders
  • Master spells like Eldritch Blast, Evard’s Black Tentacles, and more

Not much is known about the story of Warlock yet, but fans can expect an intense and dark narrative to unfold within. Kaatri’s quest is said to be “both personal and urgent,” by studio lead Dominic Guay, leading Kaatri to make a pact with her mysterious and powerful Patron, either because of mission or in order to accomplish it. All power comes at a cost, and Kaatri’s adventure is sure to dig into the darker side of the Dungeons and Dragons class to master it.

Though little else is confirmed, a closer look at the trailer may reveal even more hints as to what might be going on in Warlock. Kaatri’s Dungeons and Dragons Warlock Patron is currently shrouded in mystery, but the heavy emphasis on ravens throughout could mean the Raven Queen herself might be the source of her power. Little is known about this mysterious, godlike figure, but her prominence in Critical Role and The Legend of Vox Machina mean she has skyrocketed her popularity, making her the perfect pick for a game like Warlock.

Tasha, the notorious archfey, adoptive daughter of Baba Yaga, and narrator of Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything, has an iconic eye mark and feathers in her design that could be connected to Kaatri as well.

Speculation aside, Warlock is currently slated for a 2027 release on PC, Playstation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Players can expect to learn more about Warlock and see the first footage of its action-packed gameplay in summer 2026. It would not be surprising if the gameplay trailer were to air during the Summer Game Fest next year, with the release date coming at The Game Awards afterward.

That wasn’t the only thing Wizards of the Coast had a hand in at The Game Awards, however. Exodus is a new science fiction action adventure game developed by Archetype Entertainment and published by Wizards of the Coast. Written by space opera author Peter Hamilton and BioWare legend Drew Karpyshyn, known for his work on Baldur’s Gate, Knights of the Old Republic, Jade Empire, and Mass Effect. Fittingly, Exodus looks to have some serious Mass Effect vibes, and is likewise expected to arrive in 2027. Needless to say, Wizards of the Coast is getting ready to make a big splash in the gaming sphere soon.
