New Life Sim Game on Steam Is Stardew Valley Meets Terraria After an Apocalypse

A cozy life and farming simulation game on Steam called Doloc Town recently launched to 90% positive reviews, with many fans describing it as a love child of Stardew Valley and Terraria. Both Stardew Valley and Terraria are among the most successful indie games on Steam, so it is a big deal for a game to be compared to them upon release.

There is no shortage of games like Stardew Valley on Steam, and many titles have tried to borrow the best parts of Terraria‘s formula in the past. However, these games rarely manage to escape the shadow of their inspirations and mostly end up being called “copycats.” Doloc Town, on the other hand, seems to have a very original approach that has already received the approval of fans of the cozy life sim genre.

Brand-New Factory Automation Game on Steam is Terraria Meets Factorio

A brand-new factory automation release on Steam is a combination of Terria and Factorio, and it launches soon.

Doloc Town Gameplay Features at a Glance

  • Over 30 different types of crops
  • Over 40 different resources
  • More than 40 types of fishes
  • More than 80 crafting recipes
  • 13 characters to bond with
  • Different biomes to explore
  • Light combat elements
  • Lots of customization options

Doloc Town Takes Terraria’s Vertical Expansion to a New Level

One of the primary gimmicks in Doloc Town is its vertical builds. Players live in a post-apocalyptic universe where the soil is no longer suitable for growing crops. As a result, people have started building vertical greenhouses and farming in protected boxes. While this mechanic alone gives Doloc Town a Terraria-like vibe, the entire game is also designed as a side-scroller, which is another reason to draw comparisons between the two games.

Stardew Valley-Like Relationships and Crafting Are Some of Doloc Town’s Selling Points

Some call Doloc Town “the side-scroller Stardew Valley,” and they are not wrong. Many gameplay aspects in this new indie Steam game feel straight out of ConcernedApe’s renowned life sim. There is fishing, mining, foraging, crafting, and exploration to keep progression feeling like a never-ending joy. Similar to Stardew Valley‘s romanceable characters, Doloc Town also features interesting NPCs that players can start genuine, deep relationships with.

A Gloomy Fallout Turned into a Cozy Game

One thing that sets Doloc Town apart from most other games like Stardew Valley and Terraria is its unique post-apocalyptic design. The contrast between a dying world and an adorable pixel art style creates a unique experience that’s best described as “bittersweet.” Of course, Doloc Town is also a restoration game at heart, which means players will essentially turn their world into a better-looking, fresher place, promising a happy ending from the get-go.
