Highlights
- Frogun ENCORE release date set for June 25, sequel to popular indie game with retro aesthetic and grappling hook platforming.
- Developer Molegato focuses on refining gameplay for new installment, including changes like fixed camera angle and couch co-op mode.
- Fans excited for more collectibles and refined mechanics, while some cautious about controversial camera system inspired by Super Mario 3D World.
The June 25 release date for Frogun ENCORE has been revealed. The first Frogun game was released in 2022 by developer Molegato after being crowdfunded in 2021. This indie game series is a departure from Molegato’s other releases, Demented Pixie and Supersonic Tank Cats, the former being a twin stick shooter and the latter being a racing game. However, Supersonic Tank Cats can be seen as somewhat of a benchmark of the developer’s progress towards its current retro-styled niche.
Frogun stood out to some players especially for its grappling hook based platforming through the use of a frog as a gun to make its titular Frogun. The game also grabbed the attention of gamers through its low-poly aesthetic inspired by platformer games from the 90s and early 2000s. Overall reception of the release was positive, complimenting the style and concepts within the game along with the music, while critiquing the camera function and difficulty spikes.

Frogun Interview: Raul Martinez Garrido Reflects on Retro Platformer at Launch
Game Rant speaks to Raul Martinez Garrido about Frogun, its retro influences, and how indie developers can keep on-track with their projects.
Frogun ENCORE‘s release date reveal trailer has been released. The game is a sequel to Frogun, but this release is intended to also function as a standalone title. The new trailer for Frogun ENCORE boasts plenty for fans of games with collectibles and emphasizes the idea that the game will be playable alone as well as in a couch co-op mode. Frogun ENCORE aims to offer players a more refined version of its previous format, a platforming adventure steeped in the retro PlayStation 1/N64 aesthetic.
Frogun ENCORE Release Date Trailer
Raul Martinez Garrido aka Molegato has previously discussed the iterative process of game development, talking about the way that putting everything into the process can be exhausting at first. Garrido was appreciative of the positive reception the Frogun got and decided to dedicate time and attention to the process in a more structured manner. It appears that Garrido’s approach has grown to incorporate a direct sequel, and although some have played the demo, gamers are interested in playing Frogun ENCORE themselves and seeing how this release has changed things.
Some fans are most curious about changes such as the new camera system. The change appears similar to that of Super Mario 3D World, which was controversial among groups of players. Although some disliked the different camera angle, many appreciated the change that the fixed camera angle offered by allowing the player to focus more on managing controls and observing the environment differently. Either way, it appears that fans of indie platforming games are looking forward to trying out the new game soon.
