A new entry in the long-running Dragon Ball Z franchise is quietly shaping up for its 2027 release window, bringing players back into a familiar universe with a fresh setting, new faces, and an expanded focus on high-speed, cinematic combat. Of course, fans have come to expect nothing else from the beloved Dragon Ball Z franchise.
Recently, it’s worth noting that developer/publisher Bandai Namco Entertainment is bringing the 10 years of support for Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 to an end. Future Saga Chapter 4, set to release in Summer 2026, will conclude its long-running live service update schedule and the Future Saga. And beyond that, fans now get to look forward to Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 releasing in 2027.

Set within the broader Dragon Ball Z universe, the game draws further from the franchise’s timeline, where Earth has entered a new era following the battles of Dragon Ball Super and beyond. Just like the franchise (as a whole) balances cosmic-scale conflicts and grounded character arcs, Xenoverse 3 reflects this balance by showing a future West City where legacy heroes and new fighters co-exist. Of course, that doesn’t mean there won’t be some wild power scaling in this new Dragon Ball Z release.
The reveal trailer introduces West City as the central hub, now reimagined as the core of the open-world anime game. Key characters such as Bulma and Gamma 1 guide players into the Great Saiya Squad, where players join as their own customizable character with new missions in the Age 100. Combat builds on the series’ fast-paced aerial fighting system with the ultimate goal of deepening in-battle strategy, without slowing down the fast-paced fights of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2. Two major systems headline the gameplay changes:
- Soul Assist: allows coordinated attacks with iconic Dragon Ball allies
- Soul Switch: temporarily grants abilities tied to characters like Krillin, Piccolo, Vegeta, Future Trunks, and Tien
