Square Enix is continuing to release Final Fantasy 9 merch in celebration of the beloved JRPG’s 25th anniversary, and the next drop will be available in July. Final Fantasy 9 is considered by many to be one of the best Final Fantasy games ever made, if not the best. With so many Final Fantasy 9 fans out there, Square Enix decided to celebrate the game’s 25th anniversary with a series of merch drops.
Even though the Final Fantasy 9 anniversary was last year, the merch drops keep coming. Back in May, a Final Fantasy 9 prequel book was released, focusing on the character Vivi. Vivi and Grandpa’s Memories for the Sky is a picture book that highlights the Black Mage’s early life before the events of FF9 proper. Final Fantasy 9 fans that want even more merch can keep an eye out for the next drop, coming in July.

Final Fantasy 9: Denouement Release Date & Price
A new Final Fantasy 9 jigsaw puzzle is being released that highlights the main party members. A specific release date has not been announced at the time of this writing, but we do know that the Denouement Final Fantasy 9 jigsaw puzzle consists of 1,000 pieces and will retail for $39.99. The puzzle’s page on the Square Enix Store warns that it’s possible the release date will change, but for now, it’s pegged for a vague July 2026 release window in the US.

Hardcore Final Fantasy 9 fans likely appreciate the recent wave of merch drops, especially since the game has been relatively neglected by Square Enix compared to other entries in the series. Others, however, may be getting frustrated with the Final Fantasy 9 anniversary merch and may want something more substantial. Years ago, a Final Fantasy 9 remake project was leaked, but still has yet to be officially announced. The latest word on the project is that Square Enix has paused development of the Final Fantasy 9 remake, but again, we don’t know anything about the game in an official capacity. Final Fantasy 9 fans will have to hang tight, but the good news is that they can at least revisit the original without too much effort.
For well over a decade, Final Fantasy 9 was a PlayStation 1 exclusive. Square Enix finally brought it to new platforms in 2016 with the release of the mobile port on Android and iOS devices, followed quickly by the PC port in April of that year. Final Fantasy 9 then came to PlayStation 4 in 2017 and Switch and Xbox in 2019 with quality-of-life cheats and other bells and whistles. Thanks to these high-quality ports, anyone interested can experience Final Fantasy 9 without having to dig any old and outdated hardware out of their closets.
As far as the future of the franchise goes, the HD-2D game Final Fantasy Resonance is launching this October, while Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is releasing early next year. Final Fantasy 7 Revelation is the third and final entry in the FF7 Remake saga, so maybe Square Enix will have more time for FF9-related projects after it’s out.
