Game of Thrones fans looking forward to a new video game to play should note that Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is releasing later in 2026. Many Game of Thrones video games have stuck to the mobile space in recent years, so Game of Thrones: War for Westeros being a premium PC release makes it a little more exciting than most games based on the franchise.

Despite its incredible popularity, there haven’t been that many attempts at truly premium Game of Thrones video games. Telltale’s Game of Thrones episodic game is perhaps the best one released to date, with titles like A Game of Thrones Genesis strategy game and the 2012 Game of Thrones action-RPG earning mostly negative reviews. But soon, Game of Thrones fans will have a new major game to play in the form of Game of Thrones: War for Westeros.

6 Game of Thrones Storylines That Are Way Better Than the Books

Game of Thrones might’ve outlasted George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire books, but the HBO show did some plots better.

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is Coming Later This Year

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros was first announced at Summer Game Fest 2025 with a trailer that confirmed its real-time strategy gameplay. Set to feature both single-player and multiplayer options, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros features iconic characters like Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen, with players controlling armies led by House Stark, the Night King, and more. Updates on Game of Thrones: War for Westeros have been hard to come by since the game was announced at last year’s Summer Game Fest, but at the time of this writing, it’s still confirmed to be releasing at some point later in 2026.

Since Game of Thrones: War for Westeros was announced at last year’s Summer Game Fest, there were some franchise fans that expected to see it at this year’s event. Unfortunately for Game of Thrones fans, War for Westeros was a no-show at Summer Game Fest 2026. And since it’s a PC-only release, it was unsurprisingly a no-show at the recent PlayStation, Nintendo, and Xbox events as well. The lack of updates on Game of Thrones: War for Westeros this past year could indicate that a delay is coming, but nothing to that effect has been officially announced just yet. Until a delay is announced, strategy game fans can look forward to playing Game of Thrones: War for Westeros later this year.

It’s possible that developer and publisher PlaySide is simply waiting for the perfect opportunity to release Game of Thrones: War for Westeros. In an attempt to avoid competing with Grand Theft Auto 6, many video game publishers have announced plans to release their games in September, resulting in an absolutely stacked September 2026. It would make sense for PlaySide to avoid a September release for Game of Thrones: War for Westeros, leaving July, August, October, and December as viable options (assuming it wants to skip November because of GTA 6 as well, of course).

It’s possible more information on Game of Thrones: War for Westeros will come sooner rather than later. Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon Season 3 is scheduled to premiere on June 21, which will put the franchise back in the spotlight. It would make sense to capitalize on the renewed interest in Game of Thrones by at least releasing a new trailer for War of Westeros, if not confirming its release date, but fans will have to stay tuned.
