New Official Sifu-Like Game with Gun Fu Officially Confirmed for Summer 2027

Single-player story-focused action game SPINE will launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC via Steam in summer 2027, developer Nekki announced. SPINE has been on the radar of many action game fans for some time thanks to its flashy combat and cyberpunk setting, but its new summer 2027 release window finally gives fans a better idea of when to expect it. A release window for the Switch 2 version was not announced, though Nekki confirmed that version is planned for after launch.

SPINE follows Redline, a rebellious street artist living in Tensor City (a massive cyberpunk city built by an AI after an ecological collapse). Life in Tensor City is controlled by a Social Rating system that determines everything from who works to who eats, leaving the wealthy New City above and the struggling Old City below. After a mafia heist goes wrong and Redline’s brother disappears, she gets her hands on Spine, a sentient combat implant, and sets out to find him.

SPINE’s Gun Fu Combat Will Sell It in Summer 2027

Combat is clearly one of the biggest selling points for SPINE, combining close-quarters gunplay with beat ’em up combat through a system similar to Batman Arkham’s Freeflow Combat. Redline can dodge point-blank attacks, disarm enemies, steal their weapons, parry incoming strikes, and chain attacks together into flashy finishers. The game is also built around a cinematic combat camera that keeps players close to the action (giving fights the feel of a playable cyberpunk action movie). Because of this close cinematic presentation, it’s worth mentioning that players are in control of Redline the entire time.

SPINE‘s stylish combat is clearly a combination of Batman and Sifu with a cyberpunk touch and Gun Fu. Plus, players can use the environment, grab weapons from enemies, and improvise as encounters become more chaotic. The game will also feature boss fights against the Children of Tensor, elite spinebearers who are faster, stronger, and built to be extremely difficult to defeat (with each one requiring a different approach).

Outside of its combat, SPINE will explore the two very different sides of Tensor City from its polished upper levels to the grimy streets below. Redline will face Justice Department squads, mafia enforcers, VR-possessed fanatics, and the Children of Tensor throughout her journey, with developer Nekki promising the upcoming game is not just combat and that players will impact the cyberpunk city around them. That remains to be seen, but if so, that’s one way for the title to stand out.

SPINE still has a bit of a wait ahead, but summer 2027 gives the game a much clearer target after years of development. Nekki has not announced an exact release date for the upcoming game yet, so fans will have to wait for more details between now and next summer. The Switch 2 version will follow after launch, but PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X PC players now have a general window to look forward to.
