Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is arriving on October 14, giving fans of the grimdark universe more to dive into. The sequel follows the 2023 release of the original Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, with both titles focused on first-person action as they battle against the forces of Chaos.
The original Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun put players in the shoes of Malum Caedo, with the game set a few years past the events of Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine. The game features a retro artstyle reminiscent of boomer shooters like Doom, and was generally well received, with an 87.43% positive player review average on Steam. The sequel will pick up where the original game left off, and will introduce a second character to the fold.
Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is Coming Soon
Gamers on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC can officially look forward to Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 arriving on October 14. The sequel was originally teased back in May 2025, and has now been fully detailed, with the biggest change being the addition of Adepta Sororitas Battle Sister Nyla Veyrath as a secondary playable character. While two playable characters are available in the game, it’s a single-player title like its predecessor. A demo for the game is already available, so those who are interested in the game can check it out ahead of its release date. Nintendo Switch 2 will also receive the game, but there isn’t yet a release date for that version.
While Warhammer 40K fans can expect a lot of similarities between the sequel and the original Boltgun, there have been a number of additions and changes made going past a second character. Players will be able to explore over 30 levels where they’ll face enemies from the four Chaos god factions of Nurgle, Tzeentch, Khorne, and Slaanesh. Over 40 new enemies have been added to the game, and boss encounters have been overhauled with more complexity and difficulty. The campaign is now branching, providing more player freedom over what the original Boltgun provided, which also means playing through levels more than once will be required in order to fully complete the game.
With a second character, players will be given an option of choosing between two different playstyles and arsenals. Malum Caedo returns with a Boltgun, Chainsword, frag grenades, and Caedo’s Obliterating Charge. Nyra Veyrath, on the other hand, inherently comes equipped with a Power Sword and Bolt Pistol. Nyra Veyrath is a more agile character, with both vertical and horizontal agility through her Fervent Slide, but she also comes with a Melta Bomb to clear crowds. Additional weapons will be unlockable, including Flamers, Stakethrowers, Shotguns, and more. Both characters will be aided by AI-controlled Death Korps of Krieg troops on some levels, further expanding upon the original’s gameplay.
While there’s no shortage of excellent Warhammer 40K games to play, Boltgun 2 will further lean in to the Doom aesthetic by bringing in the composer for DOOM Eternal, Mick Gordon. Gordon is providing the final boss battle theme that will accompany the fight against Vashtorr the Arkifane. From the looks so far, fans of the genre and Warhammer 40K in general should have a lot to enjoy here.
