A new Witcher franchise release starring Geralt of Rivia is confirmed for 2027. The Witcher is one of the most popular fantasy franchises in the world, from the original books by Andrzej Sapkowski to the critically-acclaimed video games from CD Projekt Red to the controversial Netflix series. New Witcher content is released on a regular basis, and fans of the franchise definitely have a lot to look forward to in the near and far future.
The most immediate new Witcher release on the horizon is The Witcher 3 Remastered, set to launch on September 29 for PC, PS5, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S. The Witcher 3 Remastered is making significant improvements to the original game, with enhanced graphics, new abilities, combat changes, and more. It should be a great reason for longtime Witcher 3 fans to revisit the game, and the best way for newcomers to experience it for the first time. It was recently confirmed by Redanian Intelligence that Witcher creator Andrzej Sapkowski is working on a new novel starring Geralt that is aiming for completion in 2027. If Sapkowski meets his targeted completion date, it’s likely that the new Witcher book starring Geralt will release in 2027 or 2028. However, even if the new Sapkowski Witcher novel doesn’t release in 2027, fans of the franchise will have a new Geralt-focused adventure to look forward to next year regardless.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past is a brand-new expansion set to launch in 2027. Considering the overwhelming acclaim enjoyed by The Witcher 3‘s existing expansions, Songs of the Past has a lot to live up to, especially since it’s coming a staggering 12 years after the base game launched. Not a ton has been revealed about The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past yet, but we do know that the expansion will introduce a silver chain weapon for Geralt and will be set in the new region Letten. Fans can look forward to a completely original story that will see Geralt meeting Dandelion’s family. More information on Songs of the Past should come to light in the months ahead.
The Witcher 3: Songs of the Past and the upcoming Sapkowski novel should help keep fans satisfied while they wait for the next main series video game in the franchise. The Witcher 4 is in active development and will star Ciri as the main playable character instead of Geralt, a controversial but expected decision. The Witcher 4 is said to be the start of a brand-new trilogy of games, so fans can expect more Ciri-centric video game adventures in the future.
Geralt will have more video game appearances as well. The Witcher 1 is getting a remake, and even though its development is currently on hold, it will give fans the chance to relieve the iconic character’s first foray into gaming whenever it does release.
