New Open-World Stardew Valley-Like Life Sim Officially Coming to PS5

An open-world co-op life sim game called Luma Island, which already has an overall 84% positive rating on Steam, has officially confirmed that it’s coming to PlayStation 5 soon. Luma Island has been compared to staples of the genre, particularly Stardew Valley, as it channels a similar vibe and offers comparable gameplay mechanics.

What sets Luma Island apart from some other Stardew Valley-like games is its emphasis on no-pressure gameplay. Players don’t have to worry about things like inventory size, which is often a major concern in life sim games. The combat in Luma Island is also extremely forgiving, putting little pressure on exploration. Meanwhile, most of the game’s progression and missions are tied to its professions, each of which can drastically change the gameplay experience.

New Open World Stardew Valley Meets Animal Crossing Game Officially Confirmed for September 2026

A new cozy life sim with clear Stardew Valley and Animal Crossing influences is set to join the growing lineup of games arriving in September 2026.

Luma Island Is Headed to PS5 With Crossplay Support

Announced via a short teaser trailer, Luma Island‘s PS5 port is confirmed to support crossplay for up to four players. Since the game is also launching on Xbox Series X/S, players across all platforms, including Steam, will be able to play together in seamless sessions. According to developer Feel Free Games, PC users can invite their console-playing friends to their worlds without having to reset them, which is a major plus. Currently, there is no specific release date for Luma Island’s PS5 and Xbox versions, but the developer says it will be unveiled soon.

Luma Island has attracted over 800,000 players on PC since its launch in 2024.

As for the pricing, the Steam version of Luma Island is currently sold at $19.99 USD, and that price point will likely carry over to the console release. The game’s affordable price may have contributed to its popularity among fans of cozy simulation games, with developer Feel Free Games revealing that Luma Island has attracted over 800,000 players on PC since its launch in 2024.

Luma Island Gameplay Features

  • EXPLORE an open-world map with different biomes
  • BUILD a cozy farm and grow all sorts of crops
  • TEAM UP with up to three friends to build, farm, and explore together
  • CUSTOMIZE the land with distinctive structures and statues
  • RAISE Pokemon-like pets called Lumas and have them follow you around

Why Luma Island Could Be a Perfect Stardew Valley Replacement

Luma Island might not be as polished as some established life sim games, but it has two specific features that could make it an excellent choice for PlayStation users looking to scratch their Stardew Valley itch. For one, the game offers a massive range of customization and base-building features that allow players to truly build their dream farm. Secondly, Luma Island‘s casual approach to progression gives players enough time to advance at their own pace and focus only on the aspects of the game they really enjoy, without the fear of missing out on other content.

PS5 users have many other cozy games to look forward to in 2026. One good example is the upcoming Stardew Valley-like game Grave Seasons, which puts a dark, murder-centric twist on the life sim formula. There have also been some popular releases in the genre in recent months. For example, Farming Camp was released on PS5 to promising reviews, while Graveyard Keeper 2 has also recently received rave reviews on the platform. It remains to be seen how Luma Island will perform in this crowded category once it finally arrives on PS5.
