New Open World Steam Game is Basically Classic GTA But Set in the 70s

New Open World Steam Game is Basically Classic GTA But Set in the 70s

Steam users wanting a new game similar to the classic PlayStation 2-era Grand Theft Auto games may want to keep ALATURKA on their radar. Steam is one of the biggest gaming platforms in the world, and certainly the biggest on PC, by a significant margin. Despite the massive playerbase enjoyed by Steam, the biggest new game release of 2026 is skipping it entirely.

Grand Theft Auto 6 is not releasing on PC this year, meaning Steam users will have to wait until 2027 at the earliest if they want to play it on their platform of choice. Rockstar Games isn’t releasing a PC version of GTA 6 when the game launches this November, but luckily there are plenty of alternatives to play. And while a release date hasn’t been nailed down yet, Steam users will have yet another GTA-like game to check out in the future.

Rockstar Games Issues New Official Statement on GTA 6

Developer Rockstar Games issues a brand-new update for Grand Theft Auto 6 that fans can check out right now.

ALATURKA Has Serious GTA Vibes

Upcoming Steam game ALATURKA looks like a PS2-era GTA game, and with Rockstar going for hyperrealism in GTA 6, its retro-style graphics definitely stand out. ALATURKA is set in open world Bosforus, with players taking on the role of a delivery driver, working for their uncle. Like one might expect from a game inspired by GTA, players soon find themselves taking on other, less-legal work and will sometimes have to flee from the cops as a result. The game features a variety of vehicles to drive and NPCs to interact with. It definitely looks like it will appeal to fans of classic GTA games, but time will tell how the final product turns out.

Something interesting about ALATURKA is its time period. ALATURKA is set in the 1970s, which is unexplored territory for modern GTA. Grand Theft Auto 3 was set in the early 2000s, while Vice City was set in the 80s and San Andreas was set in the 90s. GTA 4, 5, and 6 are all set in the time period that they released. This should also help ALATURKA stand out when compared to the games that inspired it.

One has to wonder if Rockstar will ever move forward with another GTA set in the past. Considering the latest three main series GTA games went with modern settings, it seems unlikely, but anything could happen. Rockstar may be content exploring different periods of history with its other games. The Red Dead Redemption series is set in the old west, for example, and there are rumors that Rockstar may be working on an L.A. Noire sequel — if true, one has to imagine that such a game would be set somewhere in the 1940s – 1960s.

Who knows what the next game developed by Rockstar will be, though. Grand Theft Auto 6 has been a long time coming and will likely be the studio’s main focus for years moving forward. Indie games inspired by Rockstar’s work, like ALATURKA, can help fill the gaps between Rockstar releases, giving fans something familiar, but with their own twists.
