PlayStation Plus subscribers have a new set of games to play, assuming they are signed up for the Extra or Premium tiers of the service. Years ago, Sony decided to streamline its gaming subscription offerings, effectively combining PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now to create a new, three-tired version of PS Plus.
The base tier of PlayStation Plus is called PS Plus Essential. With it, PlayStation 4 and 5 gamers can play online multiplayer games, and they are also treated to a selection of free games to claim at the beginning of every month. The free games vary dramatically from month to month, so it’s anyone’s guess as to what will be up for grabs. A step up from the Essential tier is the Extra tier, which adds a huge selection of PS4 and PS5 games to the mix that can’t be kept indefinitely, but are available on a rotating basis ala Netflix. And finally, there’s the Premium tier, which gives subscribers access to classic games from the PS1, PS2, PSP, and PS3 eras.

Premium Tier
The latest update to the Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus just went live, giving subscribers a fresh stack of games to play. The Extra tier update has added Bramble: The Mountain King, Broken Sword – Shadows of the Templar: Reforged, Enotria: The Last Song, Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn, Red Dead Redemption 2, Star Wars Outlaws, and The Thaumaturge. The Premium update, meanwhile, only includes a single game this time around, with PS1 classic on-rails shooter Time Crisis now available to play through in its entirety.

When it comes to the new PS Plus Extra and Premium games for May 2026, there are a couple of very obvious standout games. Star Wars Outlaws is a big open world game from Ubisoft that may have had a mixed reception at first, but has since been improved to the point where many would call it underrated. Those still on the fence about it can now play through it with their subscription and can come to their own conclusions about the game. And with The Mandalorian and Grogu now hitting theaters, it’s really the perfect time to give Star Wars Outlaws a go.
The other big standout is Red Dead Redemption 2. Rockstar’s open world western has won numerous awards and is far and away one of the highest-rated video games ever made with a 97 overall critic average on review aggregate site Metacritic. Red Dead Redemption 2‘s single-player story is a sprawling epic, but its multiplayer is also worth checking out for anyone that wants to explore its beautiful world in a posse of friends.

Now that the new PS Plus Extra and Premium games for May 2026 are available, subscribers can mark their calendars for the service’s next big update. The free PS Plus games for June 2026 will be released on Tuesday, June 2, and fans can expect them to be revealed on Wednesday, May 27.
