New PS5 RPG Uses a Clever Twist to Stand Apart From Genshin Impact

New PS5 RPG Uses a Clever Twist to Stand Apart From Genshin Impact

There are plenty of open-world RPGs competing for attention, and many have started to feel familiar. Genshin Impact has established a successful formula built around exploring huge environments, fighting enemies, and discovering secrets, while other games have taken inspiration from its approach. However, Silver Palace is looking to do something a little different. The upcoming free-to-play action RPG features the anime-inspired visuals and fast-paced combat that fans of the genre will recognize, but its focus on detective work could give players a very different reason to explore its world.

Elementa confirmed on October 31 that Silver Palace will launch on December 14, 2026, for PS5, PC, and mobile devices. Developed by Silver Studio, the game takes players to Silvernia, a Victorian-inspired metropolis where mysteries and criminal investigations are central to the experience. We’re looking very silver over here. The detective premise is easily the part I’m most interested in, especially given how many open-world RPGs already offer enormous maps to explore. There’s something appealing about the idea of getting to know a city through the cases unfolding within it, rather than spending most of the adventure searching for the next undiscovered location.

New Open-World RPG on Steam Is Doing Something I Wish Pokemon Had Room For

A brand-new free-to-play creature collector game on Steam takes Pokemon’s main concepts and upgrades the gameplay in a major way.

Silver Palace’s Detective Focus Makes Exploration More Interesting

One of the biggest appeals of Genshin Impact is the freedom to wander around Teyvat and see what turns up. There are puzzles tucked away in unexpected places, treasure chests scattered across the landscape, and plenty of enemies to fight along the way. It’s an enjoyable approach to exploration, but it’s also one that other open-world RPGs have become increasingly comfortable following. Silver Palace appears to be heading in another direction by building its adventure around investigations. Silvernia is a city shaped by the discovery of a mysterious substance known as Silverium, and the competing interests surrounding it provide the backdrop for the game’s detective storyline.

I’m particularly interested in how this could change the way players interact with the open world. In many RPGs, it’s easy to get into the habit of rushing from one objective marker to another, especially once the map starts filling up with activities. Detective work could encourage a slower approach, where examining a location and paying attention to its details become part of the appeal. Returning to a street after learning something new about a case could make it feel different, even if nothing about the environment has physically changed.

The investigation mechanics might be the most interesting part of Silver Palace, but they aren’t the only things players will be doing. The game also features real-time action combat and a cast of companions, placing it in familiar territory for anyone who enjoys Genshin Impact or similar RPGs. Character switching and coordinated attacks should provide plenty of opportunities for flashy encounters, particularly when facing more powerful enemies. I don’t think Silver Palace needs to completely reinvent this side of the genre to stand out. There’s already a strong foundation for enjoyable combat in games like Genshin Impact, and combining something familiar with a more unusual approach to exploration seems like a sensible direction.

The official PlayStation listing also mentions companion relationships, property development, and everyday city activities, which could help make Silvernia feel like somewhere players spend time outside their investigations. I’m especially curious about the property development aspect, largely because it suggests there may be reasons to become attached to particular parts of the city. Companion relationships could also work well with the detective premise, as getting to know the people living in Silvernia seems like a natural part of uncovering its mysteries.

Silver Palace Needs to Make Its Mysteries Worth Solving

As promising as the detective premise sounds, there’s still a lot riding on how the investigations work in practice. A sprawling city full of mysteries is an exciting idea, but those mysteries need enough substance to keep players interested once the initial novelty wears off. I’d love to see cases that encourage players to remember details from earlier encounters and develop a better understanding of Silvernia as they progress. There’s a lot of potential in using the same neighborhoods for different investigations, especially if new information changes how players interpret places they’ve already visited.

What I like most about Silver Palace is that it seems to have a clear idea of how it wants players to engage with its setting. Genshin Impact has shown just how enjoyable discovering a vast fantasy world can be, and there’s no reason Silver Palace can’t take inspiration from the parts of that formula that work. Still, I find the idea of spending more time understanding one elaborate city particularly appealing. Exploring somewhere new is exciting, but there’s a different kind of satisfaction in gradually becoming familiar with a place and recognizing details that might have escaped your attention earlier. If Silver Palace can capture that feeling through its detective mysteries, it could offer something genuinely refreshing in an increasingly crowded genre.
